Radioddity GC-5 Ham HT. Part of the New Standard in Budget HTs?

Did you have any trouble reading/writing to the HT using the CPS? I had to try many times, getting "Failure!" when trying to read (always ensuring I had the right COM port), when it finally worked seemingly randomly. I haven't had any luck writing to it yet.

Tried again this morning. It worked OK. Two things I've noticed: 1 the K1 has to be pushed in really hard. 2. The connection works better when you hold some pressure on the K1 while reading or writing. I've been interested in getting one of those programming cables that isn't at a right angle but just plugs straight in. Where the cord connects to the two plugs seems to prevent a good connection on some radios. Cheers.

I got mine programmed and it will transmit but I get no audio at all even with squelch set to zero.

You get no audio from a repeater or from another radio on a simplex channel? The first place to look would be an unnoticed CTCSS or DCS code.

How do you get a call sign?

Depends on what country you live in. Basically, study, pass test, pay fee, issued call sign.

I only just realized I need a license to use after buying this. Oh boy. I still don't know how to program it, so study will be good.
