Thanks for the vid. I had this radio and olny made a couple contacts over GMRS. The firmware worked for me. I really like this radio un-locking this radio makes this a lot more useful to me.

Awesome video. Thank you for the information. I was thinking about getting some GM-30s for the family, and this makes me lean that way even more. I noticed that when you downloaded the radio to Chirp after the update at about 10 minutes in, that the repeter offsets were mostly just off of 5 mhz. Do you know why they are not all right at 5 mhz? Thanks again.
@MattCoversTech3 күн бұрын
Some of them were from a trip we took this summer. Those were probably the offsets needed for those.

@MattCoversTech Thanks for the quick response. I was just wondering if there was something about gmrs offsets I was missing or if the radios came programmed funky.

Hi, thanks for this video! We have 4 of these GM-30 radios We programmed using chirp, NO ONE CAN HEAR OUR- Transmitt but- we can- hear- & RECEIVE EVERYTHING. Thank You kindly

@@bett059 If you transmit any one can indeed hear it if on the same frequency or are scanning frequencies. These are not encrypted radios. You may want to research more about how two way radios work.

You keep calling the orange one a UV13 PRO. but it looks exactly like my GM15 PRO. What radio is it?

Explained in the video description.

Now I got excellent reasons to buy more GM30's to put back instead of UV5Rs and TYT UV88's!
@djsoundzentertainment4215 күн бұрын
I have done this to a couple Pofung P15UV GMRS radios. Virtually the same radios as the GM-30's.

By the way, this radio has one of the best receivers of any HT. This radio receives even the weakest signals.

Albeit different radios, do you think the same process can be done with the GM-30+ and the UV-17 Pro GPS?
@MattCoversTech6 күн бұрын
No, they are a completely different hardware that run on a completely different firmware. There is currently no firmware that unlocks those radios. I’ll keep an ear to the ground for news on it, but I think it unlikely.

Can you program grms into the radio also
@MattCoversTech15 күн бұрын
Technically yes, you can still program in the GMRS channel frequencies after the firmware change.

When you unlock it you take a legal radio and make illegal.

Oh my, are you gonna report us ?

Nice video. That radio is now no longer legally allowed for GMRS. It's a ham only radio. Reverting back via firmware is interesting though because "is it GMRS again?". Either way great information and well produced.

i brick my radio

Not sure how that’s possible, but Radioddity has instructions on their site on how to load the original firmware again.

@@MattCoversTech it is a gm15 pro baofeng
@MattCoversTech14 күн бұрын
Doesn’t matter, it’s the same radio. The process is the same and the stock firmware from Radioddity will work.
