I have the generic Baoefeng programming cable, it doesn't have the chip but thankfully windows 10 was smart enough to figure out my stupidity. The generic cable however did not work on the USB ports on the front of my computer but work great on the rear USB ports. Not sure why but if someone has issues getting radio to connect first check the cable to radio connection as Randy suggest then try a different USB, I was about to throw in the towel.
@thetarkovion6409
@thetarkovion6409 3 жыл бұрын
@@mrbyamile6973 so the reason is the USB ports on the front of your pc, are actually a hub, and the ones in the back are part of your motherboard. So whenever you see any peripherals that say don't plug into a hub they also mean not to use your front ports

Do not do this! I bricked radios doing this. Radio Software was different. Copy and paste and go thru settings and manually clone. I’ve also shared my clean baofeng files to help multiple people un-brick their radios. -always save a clean file of your radio so you can recover if needed.

I know this is an older video of yours, but I just want to give you props for making solid informational videos without going through the typical HAM nerd (ahem, I mean, "enthusiast") rigmarole. You got me into GMRS with the 935G (affiliate link, of course), and only 3 weeks later I am awaiting my UV-5R coming in the mail tomorrow. Though I can't transmit on this particular HT yet, I found GMRS is rather dead in my area (I live in a very rural area, searching with the FCC there is only one active GMRS license in my town, and it's me), but HAM licenses in my small town are rather abundant. Plus, the fact that HAM repeaters are all around me, gives me hope I can actually receive something. You have a good way of teaching what can be a very overwhelming topic while making it simple enough for the new users to understand.

Thank you @TheNotaRobicon for introducing me to the new world of HAM/GMRS radio. Coming from the IT background this has helped me understand more how radio truely works. I am now taking a HAM radio course and looking to get my technicians license and move up from there. Honestly, we need more people in the HAM community like you as a true instructor. I understand the negativity the 'internet' backed hams are giving you, but keep pushing, you're a great instructor! Peace!

Okay, I am three years late to this video. The past many years I used Midland GMRS radios, quite good. This past week I received the TD H3 two pack. Randy, thank you very much for your CHIRP explanation, it is extremely helpful. You have made this 80-year-old incredibly happy. Regarding seeing the NOAA on the screen, here is what I did: Switched to the menu system, moved to number 19, switched to MDF-B changing it from Frequency to Name. Now in the MF-B I see all channel names, not frequency nor channel number. All is good. Cordially, WRZG694

It was my first time using CHIRP & I was successful adding new frequencies to my new handheld radio. Since my Baofeng BF-H7 didn't appear in the CHIRP model menu list, I had to do a little searching around & found out that TIDRADIO TD-H6 works just fine. This is truly a very helpful & easy to understand video. Thank you! When pasting repeaters to my radio's profile tab within CHIRP, I had to keep an eye on two things; My radio doesn't support DIG Mode. So, I had to choose repeaters that were FM mode. I used OPEN STOCK CONFIG & added NOAA. I also used Query Data Source/RepeaterBook Political Query to add 4 local frequencies. The 4 frequencies are quiet right now (It's 2:55 AM) but I'll go outside in the afternoon to see if I pick up anything. No transmitting, just scanning. 73

CHIRP has standard templates in a drop-down menu for the FRS/GMRS, Marine, NOAA, etc. frequencies. I used the FRS/GMRS template to start with, then added all the NOAA and some Marine frequencies. Then, I saved that file for later use with other radios. Worked great and saved a lot of time. I do wish CHIRP columns had better explanations.

The volumn level...I was not aware that it needed to be at 50% to read, write to, and from radio. Thank you Randy. I bought the tid supersize on your recommendation..the only missing cable was the usb charging for the 3800mah batteries, so as a backup, I purchased a pair of the 6 AA shells and populated them for a quick changeout. Now if the call sign website has corrected their error and updated my uls and cores info..I can add gmrs to my other info, and round-up my preppies and set them up with your online specials . Now if someone made a program for programming a drone as easy as chirp..wow.. 🫵 one of your favorite viewers. 👍👌

9:45 If the FCC wants to spend my own tax dollars hunting me down for using a MURS, GMRS or FRS frequency in the middle of BFE- and I mean 60+ miles from any gas station, then so be it. I would be rather amused if that was what they spent their day doing. I hate bureaucracies and I understand the frustration from people who get licensed on these bands, but seriously the government gets enough of my money. Rant over 73.

Just recently found your channel and this is another really helpful video. I'm a newbie to HAM and I can honestly say, your videos have helped me more than anyone, book, or channel has... and that includes me physically going to HAM equipment swap meets - just to meet folks. Folks are pretty cagey for such a niche hobby, I'd don't know what that is all about, or maybe its something unique to SF Bay Area but its strange. I bought a couple UV5R radios back in 2019 to add to my six pack of Motorola MR350R GMRS radios but they are was just too much for me and have been sitting in a box unused until now. I still have a long way to go, and need to get licensed etc. but at least things are finally progressing forward. Just wanted to say "Thanks" and I think your videos are really helpful. Please keep doing them.

Really appreciate the information and way of explaining. Much better presentation/explanation than the first video of yours that I watched. Thanks.

My newest Baofeng UV-5r seems to have that busy channel blocker enabled so I can't talk to my son upstairs, I will try using CHIRP to disable it now. Thanks for your help, man. Your favorite Viewer

Thanks for the hint on pushing the connector hard. I was about to return the cable. I was getting "unexpected response from radio" error when downloading. Pushed harder, and it downloaded successfully.

Thank you so much for this video. I bought some Boafengs and like them. So I ordered a few more but they were an earlier model and therefore the two models didn't communicate with each other. I'm totally new to using walkie talkies and so this video really helped me get them going.

That was an amazing video. It’s far more complex than I had imagined, and this was so well done that it gives me hope, but had I known it was so involved I certainly wouldn’t have bought these raidos. My life is already too complicated. But I’ve stepped into it now I suppose.

Great video. The "Randy" breaks it down very well. I had NO issues following along. Which is strange. Radio reference does require a premium membership (not too pricy) before you get what you need from them. AND...With WINDOWS 10, I found it VERY helpful to input the actual longitude and latitude in the search query. (get it from google maps easy) and limit your distance (defaults kilometers) so that I didn't have to wade through thousands of stations. I call'em the way I see'em and the "CHIRP" is way better that that darn TD-BL-1 piece of shyt. (However...that being said I can see how I can use the two together in order to STORE my radio on my phone for quick access). Until the thieves at Tidradio make it right for stealing from me, by selling me JUNK I'm not a fan.

4 years later, the menu has changed a bit. I only wanted to add text to my channels instead of the frequencies that I programmed into the radio manually. I did the download bit, then edited the text of the channels for the upload back to the radio. No Change. Thanks for the tutorial anyway. I learned quite a bit.

There is another menu option you have to change to display the channel-name instead of the frequency.

Thanks for making Chirp so much easier to use. I cannot get a new file to open, nothing happens when selecting new file. Ctrl+N I appreciate the help. I have the new cable and it works well. I am using 1 UV-5R and 4 BF-F8Hp & RT series radios.

Outstanding video sir, very clear with all of your instructions, so clear in fact it was easy enough for an old Luddite rube like me to follow! 😂 I’ve made a vow to get my novice or technician class license this year, so I’m sleeping with a copy of radios and handhelds for dummies under my pillow! 😂😂😂 who knows, it might work! Thanks again! 🙏💪🤙
