Pirate Radio Activity Halloween 2020 On Shortwave Radio

This is my annual pirate radio activity report listening to shortwave radio on Halloween 2020. Stations heard include XFM.

Cool! I made Red Hat's "thank you" list from X-FM. I was only listening for a little while but caught a few pirates on Halloween 2020.

I was so excited, as this was the first year I was really able to look for them! Didn't hear too much, but I found Captain Morgan Shortwave, the Pirate Broadcasting System, and I just barely heard XFM, but the signal was so weak I was just barely able to ID it. I also heard a station transmitting some SSTV in between music which was probably Wolverine Radio, though I have not decoded the SSTV yet, so I'm not entirely sure.

I can help identify the station on 6.930-it was Radio 48. Not the best conditions this Halloween. I had a hard time hearing XFM. Thanks Larry for the vid...I got to hear Redhats shout out to me right after yours! 73-Jes

Very nice! I"m living in Europe and picked them up in the past with good conditions. Last years i have to much local QRM. I gave up on listening. But it was always great!

Interesting. A different issue from Europe. We get 2 way activity on 6.6-6.7MHz and on 3.4-3.5MHz the same people as on 26-28MHz. I monitor these as they are a good indicator of propagation.

X FM uses C-Quam equipment ? Must have been gutted from a commercial AM station. I’d like to see commercial AM turn those back on. HD radio on AM is worthless. The FCC is letting all stations go that way, from what I’ve read. Better idea, cut the amount of “News/Talk or sports radio type stations down...bring back music on AM ; and do so in STEREO ! I have a Chrysler radio from a 1988 Dodge Caravan....it can receive it. I simply built a cabinet for it and installed a 12 V power supply for it. I then just patch it into my stereo amp in my apartment. The antenna is simply a long chunk of speaker wire for FM and a Terk AM advantage for the AM. I made a balun to split the antenna connector into two, one for each band.
