Greetings Larry... well Field Day 2024 went right by me. I thought it was the last weekend in June and didn't realize until Sunday afternoon that it was the weekend before. Looks like it was another great time at your QTH. Going to be a bit more tuned in next year! (Pun intended) 73 KK0DJ

I've been looking for a real world HAM radio video and this one is the best by far. No silly chit chat just diving in to see what it's all about. This video has prompted me to go to the HAM radio store and find out more. Great job!

Thank you very much! It is a fun hobby for sure. Best of luck and let me know if you become involved.

Do you still use this radio. I’d love to have a full Drake or Collins station.
@RadioHamGuy17 күн бұрын
Yes I do once in a while but it is my radio from the past when I first started out so I keep it running but not my normal radio to use these days as my modern radios far out preform it nowadays. But they are great radios!

I made contact with that pilot that afternoon while I was in my pickup truck on simplex near Gainesville, Texas and he was southbound at 37,000 feet over Lawton, Oklahoma flying to Cleburne, Texas. One of the coolest 2 meter contacts ever. K5DEH

That is cool! I have a Panasonic R70 "Panapet" that looks like a smaller, less featured, version of yours. I wish more modern radios used creative designs.

Ritchie Blackmore? Pirates are fun. I don't think I've managed to find any on air yet. I guess I know what I'll be doing for Halloween this year.

@RadioHamGuy24 күн бұрын
That is great, there is a story Jim has to tell about that, something to do with a neighbor who lives by him who moved here from TX trying to tell him how it should be don his way, all in jest so Jim put that on there for a parade that went by his house. Nothing against TX hi hi. Thanks and glad you enjoyed the video

Bought mine from a local Sony dealer in 1980. Used it for a couple of years and packed it away. Wired it up a few weeks ago and it worked perfectly. But thd bands are almost dead these days, so it looks like it will be going back into storage. I think Sony saw the demise of shortwave stations coming, and stopped producing these types of radios. Often wonder what Sony would be producing in this era of advanced electronics. Seems we will never know due to the demise of shortwave.

This is so cool! How many minutes can you communicate with them?
@RadioHamGuyАй бұрын
You have about a 10 minute window during their pass to talk with them. But many others want to make contact also so about a 20 second hello and I let others try.

This radio has a problem on the tuning printed circuit board with the rivets that connect the top side printed circuit to the printed circuit on the bottom side of the PC board. The fix is to solder jumper wires on the top side of the board to replace the connection made by the printed circuit on the bottom side. Shining a bright light through the bottom of the board shows clearly where to solder the jumper wires. This is the RF amp and Local Oscillator circuit so it will require alignment. Operation without repair may be intermittent.
