I saw them play this version in San Francisco right before In Rainbows was released. I was in a sad sad place and suddenly this started playing. I literally just started weeping right in the stadium. For some reason, this version at that time just felt so hopeful and I felt as if everything was going to be ok. Things didn't get any better for a long long time and I had to stop listening to them for a couple of years because it was overwhelming and everything fell apart, but now I am in a place where I can listen to them again. It is nice. Still fragile, but this seems to help reinforce the weakest parts now. God, I love this song and I love these guys.

I was at this show, and was in a pretty dark place after an unfortunate event. My friends offered me a ticket to cheer me up, not only a ticket, but a front row ticket between Ed and Thom! I've never looked at music the same since, I'm eternally grateful to those fellas for opening my eyes and this was easily the highlight of the night for me. Still gives me chills more then 12 years later.

Man the note at 2:26 is amazing! It's so cathartic being sung along the lines of "soon I'm gonna wake up." It makes me think of stepping into a light after drowning in despair for so long. I wish they had included that note in the album version.

I like having access to this version, but I do think the recording makes way more sense. It comes across as happy campfire in this arrangement, which is very against the nature of the piece otherwise.

one of the best Radiohead songs left on the cutting room floor and one of my favorite RH songs -period. They played this song live only a handful of times and only in 2006. Seems like they were experimenting with different versions on this tour - this being my favorite - better than the cut on In Rainbows Disk 2. Selway’s bass drum and Jonny’s guitar magic with Yorke’s piano melody gives me chills every time

I cannot believe it's been more than ten years since I first heard this song. Probably one of the songs that can immediattely touch my soul and make me bawl like a baby. I'm so scared and sad that I might not ever gonna see the live. I honestly think no other band or aftist touched my soul like Radiohead does.

This was part of the special-tour they did of smaller venues to road-test future "In Rainbows" songs, playing a lot of fan favorites/real oldies in between. ALL the songs changed by the time they got into the studio (I still mourn the loss of the original "Videotape"), some more than others. With this tune, all they did, essentially, was mix out the acoustic guitars, and cut the drums entirely...yet even THAT changed the song greatly...and in my opinion, once again, for the worse lol. Thom can never just let those songs be. "We sound like a bloody rock band!!"

Slapback echo
@kilgoretrout3213 жыл бұрын
I believe it's echo with overdrive. Underlooked is that his guitar's pickups (Lace Sensors) are a different tech than most other's. They lend themselves to an impeccably clear transmission of string vibrations, albeit non-traditional sounding in most rock contexts. That note clarity is especially advantageous for modulation effects like chorus, delay, echo, and reverb, and Johnny leverages that to great effect for his sound.
