I don't think it's just that he doesn't feel the same, it's their "smells like teen spirit" and they probably got utterly sick of it after a few years. Their most famous song by a long shot. Doesn't help that there's dozens of cringy, insipid cover versions with choirs etc that have totally diluted the meaning and feel of the song, and it's not as if it was ultra deep to begin with. Cheesy choral versions and emotionally overwrought, breathy female voices have put this song in the domain of "music for people who don't like music" It's sad, because the song is an utter banger, even if it doesn't have the depth of their later work. I just hope that by being sparing with it these days, means it's actually enjoyable for them to perform.
@shellyt556 Жыл бұрын
@@ValleyRC It always was a feeling song rather than a compositional masterpiece. He could always rearrange the song a bit to make it fresh. Part of the charm of the song is the eerieness, dark tone and the way Thom sings it. The Police's every breath you take cannot match Thom's ethereal eerieness. To heck with it being an overplayed commercial success. It is a simple catchy song that is relatable to peoples experiences with unrequited love.

I think a lot of musicians aren't prepared for a "lightning in a bottle" song when they record it or perform it. When a song like Creep takes off into the stratosphere it connects so fundamentally to so many people who make it their own that the appetite for it live is insatiable. Creep is personal to Thom Yorke, those feelings are personal to Thom. Imagine the world wanting that song to be performed over and over and over when it likely causes either pain or irritation to Thom at some point. The price of fame I guess.

The way you can listen to Thom sing and still hear his more youthful and high ascending vocals that we all know and love from the original 1992 recorded version is so refreshing. His vocals haven’t changed one bit even though his voice has aged. He still hits every note and falls off of certain ones beautifully. He’s truly one in a million when it comes to talented artists.

I feel like Radiohead only does the song for crowds who earn it organically. Who don't pester the band throughout their set to play it... And instead, when they perform it, do it as a "Thank You" for a receptive audience to the rest of their catalogue. I don't get the vibes, they're tired of it... Now and it's just kind of cool for them to "gift" this song to them towards the end.

@@Natei They did hate it at first, which is why they stopped playing it for a long period, but one of the band members actually started to play it to mess with the lead singer and said that it was like lighting a fire. In may of 2016 I believe, was the first time they brought it back live and you can here him say " this is for the guys yelling creep in the back", clearly showing he was doing it out of spite. He ended up, with the rest of the band as well, wanting to play it in which, two days later was brought back live again. Then on they played it sporadically.
