Thom Yorke, the lead singer, wrote this song in college. He liked a girl that was “way out of his league” - followed her around and then got drunk to finally confess. She freaked out and ran (where the “run” comes from) On an interview about the song he also said “There’s the beautiful people, and there’s the rest of us” This is my fav song, never gets old. If you want some more Radiohead I’d recommend “Fake Plastic Trees” and “Karma Police” to get you started

The song is basically about... There someone you like, someone who you think is absolutely perfect, but you know they would never look twice at you cause you're nothing compared to them, so you're just gonna low key stalk them. (No social media. Old school looking and showing up at places you'll know they'll be.)
@znk0r3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say it's "you know", but more "you think". The voice has low confidence and low self esteem, he himself thinks all these things.

This song dates back to 1993 from one of their albums, I saw them live a few times, even did front of stage security once for them late in their career. The official video has Johnny Depp in it. He chatted with them backstage after a concert one night, then they contacted him and ask if he would be involved in the video for their latest song, and he agreed

This is a song seemingly written and performed for all those, like me, who have stood around in pubs and clubs - during what our elders never ceased to remind us was "the best years of our lives" and yet wondering just what exactly it was, we were clearly “lacking” (and why wasn't everybody else there lacking it, too). The genius and irony of this composition is in pointing out that we ALL are unsure of our standing and such remains a constant, throughout or lives (even the tricksters who so convincingly make us believe they aren’t “lacking” at all . The girl he wrote the song about (who did actually exist) may well have lacked confidence, herself. Maybe even bounced through her life from one abusive relationship, where she was made to feel “inferior”, to another and feeling unworthy of a better place because she “don’t belong there”.
