In general, I do not care about the Rock Hall. However, the inductions of Radiohead and the Cure might signify a start to the boomers’ weakening clutch on the Hall. I suppose this “classic rock” narrative will inevitably fade with time, but that time seems to already be approaching. This makes me wonder how the Rock Hall will treat alternative acts like Sufjan Stevens, Animal Collective, etc. (if it still exists as a breathing institution). Yes, they have had critical acclaim and influence, but not on the mainstream level, and the Rock Hall currently seems to favor those who have had some popularity in the US.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame should probably conserve an artist's entire discography (or a selected amount of their best material). Kinda like the National Film Registry does with movies. I'd h8 to be the m8 that has to st8 the unfortunate f8, but as you grow and time goes at a faster r8, and delay your passions to a later d8, before you know it, it'll be too l8, with nothing left in life to appreci8, you'll only be left with death to anticip8. But happy 8th birthday, m8, hope it was a lot of fun to celebr8.

I’m pretty sure a musical act is eligible 25 years after its debut album was released, so I believe this would be Radiohead’s first year of eligibility.

Rockdrigo for one the Hall of Fame is never been just for rock artist. It’s about the spirit of Rock & Roll and music. So I’m guessing you don’t want Michael in, Prince because he didn’t make outright rock music, Stevie Wonder, ect Also I can tell that you have never listened to any of her albums. Because all of her albums have at least one full out rock song on them. Also out of all her number 1s the first one she wrote and produced ALL BY HERSELF is a full out rock song called Black Cat. And till this day it’s the only song to ever be number 1 on the pop, r&b, dance, and rock charts in history at the same time She literally should’ve been in there she’s Janet Jackson!!!! Come on

@@ikexbankai It seems to me (and many) that the Hall wants to have one foot on "we are keeping rock alive" and another on "everyone rocks!". Just change the name to Music Hall of Fame or Popular Music Hall Of Fame so it doesn't feel like you are including pop artists just to have more heads turned. Under the conditions they themselves state, like "having a lasting impact on rock history" I don't think Michael, Stevie or Prince (maaaaaybe Prince) should be there either, even if I enjoy their music. I mean, classical composers and jazz artists would have to get in too, since they had a big impact in genres like progressive and post-rock. No, I haven't listened to Janet's music beyond a few songs (who knows, maybe I become a fan), but having a few rock leaning songs doesn't turn you into a rock act, specially because her impact is not felt on any rock genre but in R&B. Choose first artists that you know for sure fall under the rock umbrella, instead of basing on technicalities to keep your foundation from losing popularity.

@@R0CKDRIG0 sorry RNR Hall of Fame isnt a Battle of the bands.. Janet is a popular artists that used like ROCk, pop, rnb, hip hop, & dance. She the first woman to have a pop & rock #1 on the charts. How do you know she didnt influence rockstars?

The fact that Janet Jackson was inducted before Todd Rundgren, Kraftwerk and Rage is an actual joke. The Hall is about commercial success and politics, not about true artistry.

@The Lonely Traveller It's outdated to say the least. When it was named, some genres weren't even started or were just starting. Namely rap, hip hop, punk, metal etc... The fact is because people aren't eligible for 25yrs there weren't many acts or genres available to choose from at the time. Since then the field has broadened, as it should given the scope of music the last 40yrs. It's also funny, that an artist like Janet gets this kind of BS slight all the time. Fact is, she's had chart success in 5 different genres, including a number one rock single. People that only see her as a pop star don't know what they're talking about

No Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, King Crimson, Joy Division, Public Image Limited, not ONE German band from the Krautrock era, Soundgarden, RATM, Smashing Pumpkins, Black Flag, Fugazi, Alice In Chains, Pixies, Sonic Youth, Swans, Slayer, Captain Beefheart, Megadeth, Husker Du, Minutemen, Death, Bathory, Venom, Kyuss, Sleep, Jethro Tull, Eno as a solo artist, Dick Dale etc. But Janet Jackson gets in? Wtf is wrong with the people that run this place?

Hey ant, I believe the reason ratm wasn’t in already was the rule where an inductees debut album has to be 20 years old or 25 or something to be in the hall of fame? I know there’s some sort of rule where the debut album of the artist has to be a certain number of years old...
