Wow, just wow. Thom Yorke's incredible vocal range is apparent in this gem. So beautifully, ethereally, mesmerizing.

This song was inspired by the Amiriyah shelter bombing during the Gulf War. A civilian bomb shelter in Baghdad was mistaken for a command outpost and struck by a pair of laser-guided smart bombs. 408 civilians - men, women, children - were incinerated, 13th of February, 1991. I only learned that this had happened from the documentary “Homeland: Iraq Year Zero,” which is something like an extended home video shot by a middle-class Iraqi family both before and after the 2003 invasion. What was left of the shelter was preserved as a memorial, and towards the end of part one of the documentary, we follow a young boy in this family as he visits and walks through it... knowing by that point that he will die shortly after the invasion.

@manolete34011 жыл бұрын
Well it must be more complicated but I think this song talks about how our sense of responsability turn us into an spiral of autodestruction sometimes. And, at the same time, the song wants to show us how to get inside the world trying to open our minds and going to explore it, forgetting the morality that rules the world and confines our identity. We come back to the origins of existence after that and try to understand everything from our own point of view, like children with no prejudices.

This has got to be the most seriously depressing music video .ever made. However that should not detract from its mournful, soul searching beauty or the grinding sadness it provokes with its stark, mind blowing fields of war. Melancholy tears may well up in one's eyes as they watch the obscenities of war, the follies of mankind and listen to the genius of Radiohead

***** Thats a different story man.. Cant compare Radiohead angst to that. Not my kind of thing but this is something you would normally listen to chill out. With Radiohead its a constant roller coaster between epic and bottom of the pit.
@snoutout9 жыл бұрын
Harry Mandilas Completely agree. I used to be the biggest Radiohead fan and I still love them but I limit how much I listen to them, which is now occasionally. Too much of them can be bad for you, too little of them could be a hindrance as well. Some may prefer darker than Radiohead - to which I say, to each his own. But for me, I don't go much darker, as I am a soul of light. A little darkness is helpful, though - to embrace humanity, you must experience the dark and find a balance between that and light. Between epic and bottom of the pit is one way to put it. Cheers.
