@@tse7751I think it might be a little bit to do with how experimental they are, especially in relation to other acts as popular as they are. Each album is wildly different from the sound of the previous, and each song distinct. I think it challenges you a little more as a listener but once you feel the song it is extra rewarding.

My best friend died last week. When I met him, we didn't like each other until we find out both of us played Radiohead. He was 35 five and it wasn't supposed to happen. This was one of the first songs we played together, and I'm playing it at his funeral next week. His wife put it to him at the hospital when he was in a coma, before he was disconnected. This band was with me in my hard teenage years when I almost committed suicide, and their music helped me through it. And now they'll be signifying all my life, reminding me of my friend, Cesar.

I feel like they've been playing so long together and have been friends in the band so long (think back, it's going on almost 30 years now) that the type of connection they have musically and as friends is one that can only come from years and years of all the experiences and times they've been through together. I can literally see that in this video in the way they interact. Call me over-sentimental as a long time fan, I'm okay with that. But to my eyes, this is the most graceful, beautiful, peaceful thing to see how they play together and their connection as friends and bandmates. It makes me look forward to growing older and staying in touch with the friends who matter most in my life.

I've been looking for comments for a while here to see if anyone feels this too. It's just insane. The music feels so tense, chaotic, and abrasive. But all of a sudden the guitar just turns peaceful and relaxing here, all accompanied by Thom's "In you I'm lost",giving it this romantic and loving tone. Like if there's always going to be a beautiful rose within a stack of thorns.

I can only listen to this song once in a while. From the first time I listened to it, it felt very special and took me somewhere unique. I didn't want to listen to it to the point where it had no impact. Another thing then doubled up the reason I can't listen to it all of the time - my mum died suddenly last May over the space of a weekend. She put up with my Radiohead obsession for years, but when I played her this song, I think for the first time she understood it. We listened to the entire song in silence. This song brings her back for me, for just a while. When I feel like I need to grieve, this song helps me through it. I would love to meet Thom Yorke and the rest of the band, but how could you ever express to them how important their music has been for you?

I've never decided even to text her to tell I miss her, and this song became one of my "hiding songs" for that time. I was hidden in this melancholy, borderline heartbroken all the time, this feeling was colored precisely in the colors of this album's cover art. It became like a forever rainy day for me, freezed. I knew exactly what it meant by "self-defence against the present tense"

its great to back a winning horse. I've been following Radiohead since i was about 14/15 years old (the first time a friend of mine put an earphone playing karma police into my ear on a school trip to the London Aquarium), since then i've spent alot of time explaining/sticking up for the depressive/melancholy tone to most of their work. Trying to explain that im not going to kill myself, that i don't hate myself etc etc. To see them continually growing to this day is so rewarding. Johnny Greenwood scoring Oscar winning films, Thom Yorke working with Hans Zimmer for Blue Planet, and the entire band are STILL putting out incredible work as they all near 50 years old.

I agree. I didn't like it for the first few months, then: BOOM. It hit me. It's beyond words. Just visceral, intricate and opaque. I agree with the liquid analogies, hinted by the album art itself: it's this swirl of sound and sensation... eludes concrete definition.

All the music in this song was probably written in parts years ago; Radiohead has bits and ideas written from years ago that they pull from. For them, it's probably more a matter of putting the pieces together into something that's repeatable and fitting for their band.

How can a band that has been together for so long still be putting together masterpieces such as A Moon Shape Pool when so many other bands lose their creative spark over time?

@@chantiaharper1475 Because they are not trying to replicate previous sounds, meaning everything they create is new and hasn't been influenced by their works of the past. They are also independent, they are not rushed to put or have the influence of a record label. They also take time between their albums, nothing is rushed.

Here is my answer: A Moon Shaped Pool is a great album but most of the songs in it are never released before song from Radiohead or from some of the members. For exemple this very Present Tense was composed by Yorke more than a decade ago. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKiXnJaao9KDas0&feature=emb_logo. Nevertheless Radiohead is still the best to me...
