A guitar lesson for "Weird Fishes/Arpeggi" from Radiohead's 2007 album In Rainbows.
In this tutorial, I break down all of the key guitar parts in the mix. I had trouble finding a complete tutorial for Weird Fishes on KZbin so I wanted to give my take on the many nuances and details of this song, which is in standard tuning. I can hear at least 3 or 4 guitar tracks playing at once in the original recording, so in this lesson I walk through how Jonny Greenwood, Ed O'Brien, and Thom Yorke play it live while still staying faithful to the In Rainbows version.
This is my favorite Radiohead track. It finally clicked with me one day after many listens (like many Radiohead songs do) and very quickly became one of my favorite songs of all-time. I've never heard another song like it. Arpeggi is simply beautiful in the way it builds and takes you to another place. From a thematic standpoint, it's heartbreaking yet somehow simultaneously uplifting.
There are some really raw and interesting versions of this song from the 2006 tour before In Rainbows was released so give those a listen. Also check out Lianne La Havas covering this song at Glastonbury in 2013. It's Weird Fishes with an R&B vibe. Maybe the best Radiohead cover ever.
