I was born in 1951, this is my children's music but I was thoroughly taken in. In fact one of my best memories is of my wife and I loading up our van with my daughters and some of their friends and taking them to a No Doubt concert sending them off so that we weren't under foot and experiencing their joy. Definitions of hard times depend on how tough the person is mentally. Me, I'm pretty damn weak myself. The people who see me in real life and know me know that I am the same person in a group of people and when I'm alone. Materialism and chasing superficial things in the world have definitely caused me to fall into deep depression too many times. The whole concept of comparing oneself with those around them, and trying to one-up them in how much “success” one can gain is a destructive path that only leads to pain and self-hatred (and sometimes, from many people I’ve known, it lead to them ending their own lives). It might be hard (trust me, I know), but try to live compassionately, and try to pursue something that’s actually important to you (a hobby, for instance). It’s worth it, I promise. Take care of yourselves out there.
