RadioMaster Boxer 4(5)Ch Fixed Wing model set up with “Safe” Throttle

This tutorial video will assist you to set up a standard four channel fixed wing model using 2 servos to control the ailerons. We will also set up a timer and most importantly set up a safe throttle in your Boxer radio.

Morning Bill, have set up safe as your video. The timer keeps timing out while the THS is at minimum.

Hi Keith, check the Logical Switches and use the logical switch to operate the time not a physical switch. It will be the second line of the logical switch settings for the safe throttle. Now you time will only operate armed and throttle is forward.

I think that you don't need to use curve, Simple replace value should do.

Bill, I've been working my way through your excellent videos for a model with a 2 servo wing and electric power. I was going to use S2 as the safe throttle switch but have somehow removed S2 from the options presented when allocating a switch on the Boxer screen, and the title 'S2' is not there when i view the switches on EdgeTx companion. As my knowledge of these things is rather limited could you tell me what i need to do to fix the problem. Many thanks.

Hi Graham, hit the SYS button go down to Pots you should see S1, S2 & S3 check that S1 & S2 show Pot w det hopefully this will solve your problem.

Hi Bill, am trying to control nose Wheel & Rudder Independently using gear switch so the nose wheel operates when gear is down using rudder, when retracted it does not operate. Cheers Keith in OZ

Hi Keith, you need to set up the retract function to its own mix / channel. Now set up a mix with source Rudder and Switch which operates the retract. This is connected to the nose wheel steering servo. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply Bill! I am trying to setup my Turbo Timber Evolution and want to make sure I am setting up the Flaps and LED lights correctly. I am also interested in setting up dual rates and would to know how to setup Safe Select and AS3x modes. I believe I can configure with my boxer remote through forward programming. Also, I’d like to setup Telemetry. I’m familiar with my boxer for FPV drones not RC Planes. Not sure if I should setup these modes through Inputs or Mixers?

You need to use mixes.

Highlight the aileron channel and copy it. Move to Ch 5 and paste. Normally you will need to reverse the weight to -100 so the aileron moves in the correct direction.

Hi Sam, it’s difficult for me to analysis your problem without seeing your radio. All I can suggest is to check your settings as per my video. If the safe throttle is not working make sure you check you have selected throttle stick and not throttle input in logical switch 1

For my L02 configuration on a RM Pocket, I inverted the value of SA because of preference. I do have an unrelated issue with the channel 5 servo on a BetaFPV Micro RX. The servo only seems to register on or off and at center stick it sort of bounces back and forth.

My first question for you is what radio link are you using? If ExpressLRS you must only use Channel 5 for arming.

@@the-happy-RC-flyer yeah, it is ELRS. It was my understanding this rx could be configured for 5ch PWM. It seems to show ch5 as PWM in the config webpage. I'm very new to all of this and I'll stumble my way though it. I just want two aileron channels for flaperons :) The mix configuration for safe arming you have here is very good though, I appreciate the time put into this content.

If you have more than 5 channel receivers use a different channel for the mix.

I just recently bought the 5ch rx but it was only $13. BETAFPV website shows it as supporting all 5ch as PWM so I'll do some more research .

Just use the standard default mix and assign the switch you want to use. No need to make any adjustments with a 3 position switch.
