Thanks for the review. Matek ELRS 3 R24-P6 is still my favorite, as it has main battery voltage (up to 36V) telemetry

Yeah, I do like that voltage telemetry. Awesome feature. Would love to see that on all ELRS Rx's going forward.

Awesome review, as always. I bought the same rx, but I did not see the DIY fw in 1.6.rc-2. It only shows fw for tx modules. I ended up using the RM ER5A pwm

In Configurator v1.6.0 and ELRS v3.3 there is an option under Radiomaster 2.4ghz for ER5A/C.

@RCVideoReviews I got it working on 1.5.10 it's also listed. The DiY didn't work at all, but it took the RM Fw after shutting down the wifi. Well, I'm hitting the boot button, got it.

I personally haven't jumped on the ELRS bandwagon yet because TBS is making, and I'm using their Crossfire 6 channel pwm nano receiver for my fixed wing models. Besides the obvious 2.4ghz and 915mhz difference between the protocols, are their any significant differences or advantages to an ELRS system over Crossfire besides more availability due to it's open source nature? It would seem that Crossfire would have the edge in range, signal retention and security, latency and reliability over an ELRS setup.

Range, signal retention, security, latency, reliability. Interesting set of parameters: Range - ELRS leadererboard currently has a 2.4g ELRS going 10km on 10mw of power. I've personally flown LOS and reviewed logs showing no higher than 25mw of dynamic power (the lowest power level my Tx can set) at 98% LQ. I'm sure Crossfire has good range, but at some point it becomes academic. How far do you think you're going to fly? Signal retention - I don't know what this means. I'm not aware of a signal retention metric. Security - They both frequency hop. What type of security are you looking for? Encrypted packets? Latency - ELRS can run at 1000mhz. Crossfire 900 tops at 150hz. I personally run my 8ch pwm setups at 333hz. FLRC mode has 365us OTA time for racers to minimize latency providing 1kHz update rates. ~6.5 time faster than Crossfire. Reliability - See previous comment on range. 10km @ 10mw over 10km. My own first hand LOS experience is 98% LQ @ 25mw. ELRS also supports Deja vu mode (DVDA) in 3.0 which means each packet is sent twice across multiple frequencies. There are multiple diverse Rx antenna options available. Happymodel just released a true dual diverse receiver with two radios and two antennas on one rx and I know for a fact there are more of these in the pipeline. ELRS also allows for "loan model" by bumping certain Txs or binding to a 2nd Tx from lua script. PWM servo output has recently been refactored to allow 100, 160, 333, and 400Hz which significantly reduced latency over ELRS 2.x. ELRS receivers now support vbat directly so pack voltage can be sent via telemetry even on very basic Rxs. Price - Usually < half of Crossfire for both Rx and Tx.

@@RCVideoReviews I should have been more specific when I was mentioning security/safety/reliability which I was referring to link quality, brownouts,, interference and failsafe vulnerability. Thanks for the knowledge, comparisons and information on the ELRS system compared to crossfire, I think that I just may make the jump and experiment with the system to see which one I prefer over the other since Spektrum receivers have got so expensive, and I no longer trust lemon or orange receivers due to a few crashes between myself and other club members.

I get behind open source because the well organized projects tend to push forward and push the envelope. The key for production use is a sufficient sample set flying and not reporting major issues. Edge and ELRS are both in this stages of development. I think you’re taking the right approach. It’s what I do. Get a few bits and bobs then test for yourself.

How do you know what channel to plug the esc into?
@RCVideoReviews
@RCVideoReviews Жыл бұрын
It depends on the radio/radio firmware you're using. If you're using an EdgeTX based radio like the TX16s, you can plug the ESC into any channel you want. Say you use Pin 4. In the mix page of your model setup, you then put throttle on line 4. Usually, radios have some sort of channel order like AETR where T=Throttle=Ch3. Some might be TAER T=Ch1. Electrically, it doesn't matter what pin you use. All signal pins on PWM RXs have common ground and common power. If in doubt, start with throttle on Ch3/Pin3.

Make sure you don't have the TX too close to RX. Also, you may need to look at telemetry and/or logging to see what's going on.

Unless you fly scale planes like me that need 6chs for flaps and retracts

Do they have a Sbus output. I use a very cheap Sbus to pwm board off of allyexpress. 8ch board. Changeable from 1-8 or 9-16. I use them with my X8R's. I use separate channels for each servo. Redundancy. Not a fan of Y leads. Plus I split rudder, steering wheel channels to two. So a simple 6ch plane has about 13 channels, especially if I'm using a RX8R
@RCVideoReviews
@RCVideoReviews 2 жыл бұрын
Then get a 6ch matek....?
@RCVideoReviews
@RCVideoReviews 2 жыл бұрын
sbus is not supported natively, but there are add-on cards for $3.50. And that's not a simple plane. You have a specific use case that obviously isn't supported by 5 channels.

@@RCVideoReviews yup. Sorry. Wrong use of words, I was meaning that I turn a simple 6ch into a more complex set up to achieve my thoughts. I'm not sure if my thinking is correct. But it works
