Up today, the new RadioMaster Pocket radio. It's designed to be slung easily in the backpack without having to worry about things breaking off of it. But aside from the easy option of how you carry it around, this little radio packs a serious punch for the buck. Watch on to find out why!

Your new style and attitude toward the reviews is very refreshing !! You seem much more relaxed, and the information and opinions on the radio are much more important than having the first review. I had issues with a Radiomaster radio before, and do not have a very good opinion of their products and service as a result. This radio, however, at this price point, is pretty much a no brainer for a guy like me, looking for an ELRS radio on the cheap. Thanks for the very well done review !!

It's interesting. Companies have one shot of capturing you - and a negative experience can put you off for a long time. I've had great results with RadioMaster, whilst my Jumper radio bit the dust and Jumper just sort of shrugged their shoulders and said they couldn't help. I think every company can have failures in their products(I think in electronics it's around 1%) but it's how they then handle that aftercare and put things right, and many are lacking here

@@CurryKitten the " customer service" I received was what put me off for sure. I got the 1% radio, which happens, but without getting into it, I ended up throwing the radio in the trash. At that time , they basically told me to fix it myself, couldn't be a big problem. My Spektrum DX6 has been working great since I bought it used 5 years ago. The build quality compared to Radiomaster is noticeable. That said , ELRS is becoming a standard, hard to find Spektrum compatible gear.

Nice to see you out and about flying again, I liked the stuff about being new to walksnail. Looks a nice little radio that can do same stuff as bigger radios.

Yeah - it's a pretty decent radio. Just missing some of the switches/pots that the more classic radios like the TX16 can give you, but most people flying quads have an arm switch, flight mode switch and maybe a beeper

Great overview Wayne...I like how you showed us travelling to site with it....A bit of a bargain if you have yet to go express ELRS....That stupidly high packet rate as a default from the factory needs looking at. A mate recently got a Zorro and it made his quad all wobbly around neutral. Turned it down from F1000 to 50 and it was fine....😳😳😮😏🇬🇧
@CurryKitten
@CurryKitten Жыл бұрын
Yeah - it's weird that all modules/radios tend to come with F1000 as a default. I'd completely forgot to check it, as I'm normally happy on 250hz

Really enjoyed the review. The quads camera is actually very clear and more suitable than a thumb (in my opinion) .😊

I agree. Whilst the footage might be a little jerky (mostly due to my thumbs) it doesn't have the rolling shutter that the thumb cameras tend to bring

Nice review, I like the small form factor of the radio, and I enjoyed your real world test -- sometimes I think lush green scrub can be tricky for the radio and for the WS video video feed, and that's what makes your real world test so good. 2S Walksail small micro and whoop quads -- they are much fun, it my favorite format for a quad ar this moment.. 😀

Yes - I've noticed flying through trees over grass it the trickiest sort of thing for the video compression. There's just too much moving detail so everything ends up as a key frame and can cause issues like blurring and dodgy compression artifacts. I was pretty happy in these flights though - aside form all the crashing :) This little 2S is a great quad just for wondering around and finding spots though - I could never do that with a 5", or even on a half decent 3"

hey buddy..I do like the orange case... this is still my main rc 6 months later, really good rc for the price.. what tx power do you run yours? im on 100mw? do you use 250? thxs bud
@CurryKitten
@CurryKitten 8 ай бұрын
I used to run everything on 100mw and not really have an issue. the only time I noticed I might need more power is with the little whoops that don't have proper antennas. I've tended to run on dynamic power since then, and have the power displayed on my OSD

Also, I truly believe that when you have that plugged in for a joystick it's not charging your battery. So I think whether you plug in the joystick on top or run on Bluetooth you're still draining batteries.
@CurryKitten
@CurryKitten Жыл бұрын
This is correct. Either way drains your battery - I just get the impression Bluetooth takes a bit more (but probably not that much to worry about) It's the one slightly weird thing that RadioMaster seem to do in terms of adding different USB-C ports for charging and for USB connections. I'm not sure why they just can't have a single port that does it all

I appreciate the delayed release of such reviews when you felt you had spent enough time with the radio. Also the 13:00 backpack session in the forrest is a good example to put things into perspective. the best - I can tell you - is shown in 1:20 the bag cause I had purchased 2 years ago an original TX16S bag for over 20 € to cover the big foam and give me a grip, the simplest thing ever - and it was crap for the price or totally overpriced and the by far worst product I had bought from Radiomaster. Felt like a scam, any chinese garage stich manufacturer would have delivered the same for less than the half. Since then I was really done with radiomaster even though I had bought over 15 remotes since Jan 2020 for the club and me. This one looks like a nice entry model even though I hate to see the pricing with 10€ more for an ELRS transmission which is not worth 10€ more considering that the developement is done by open source community and I doubt that the ELRS boys will get 8€ of those 10€ (2€ is vat so not disposable). The colourfull cases have also to be called expensive - at least if I compare it with what I had paid for my Jumper T16S case back when the radio had arrived with a damage: 11€ for a bigger case than this one. At the end you can only use one case and the other one becomes a dust collector and will never been used, lot of CO2 emissions for (close to) nothing. But I miss the real stuff like metal buttons and roller that can be made in china so cheap which really can add value compared to a new color. They will have to do more cause Chinese economy had lost -14% in exports yty, there currency lost 35% of value and they have -5% inflation thanks to cheap russian oil which we pay. So I expect more falling prices and also cheaper shipping in the future. Not important for smaller parts and pieces but in the singles day and black friday sales we will see new low prices and cheaper products for sure cause chinese imports have also dropped by -12% and they purchase manager index has stalled clearly below 50% which means they do not believe it will get better. I also have the Jumper T-lite which was a lot cheaper and might fit better, but I will get one to try it out cause a lot has been improved over the Zorro. Meanwhile I have ordered the Jumper T20 . Happy flying and I like this delayed reviews - and was already wondering that yours was missing cause I tend to watch all of them to get the full immersion before the purchase. But I assumed holidays or bad weather cause we had about 4 weeks of rain in a row, wettest summer for a decade. Hope you will get the views too which your review deserves even though it is a bit later.

Not sure about the pricing difference on this one - I assume it's just the price of the components, as both internal options are coming from designs of OpenSource projects (the other being the DIY-Multiprotocol-TX-Module - although just using the single CC2500 chip) I'd certainly welcome a price drop though - electronic components have gone through the roof over the last 2 years. Just having them drop back down to where they were would be enough for me
