Hi, very nice video, thank you. I have a TX12 that I'm trying to make it work with a FRSky R9M2019 as external module and rx R9 but without any success. I think I have tried everything (flash new FW in the module etc.). I tried like you did on the video with Crossfire but with R9M in different options (FCC, EU etc.) and it doesn't work. I can't find instructions anywhere that show how to do it but I saw in your video a red FRSky R9M2018 module on you tx so I thought you would know how? Thank you.
@TMacFPV3 жыл бұрын
Hey Richard! I believe your Frsky 2019 R9 module has FrSky ACCESS firmware on it. This is the first (among many) firmware FrSky developed to "lock out" non-FrSky equipment from using FrSky products. Consequently, ACCESS firmware modules will not work (are not compatible) with the TX12 (or any other) non-FrSky transmitter without significant modification. It is because FrSky chose to go down this path in 2019 that a lot of pilots decided to stop using FrSky equipment. My best advice to you for using your 2019 R9 module is to flash it (and your FrSky R9 receivers) with ExpressLRS firmware (which is both Open Source and arguably the best radio control firmware available). Once you have done that, your R9M module will work with your Tx12 transmitter (or any other transmitter) and you'll still be able to use your R9 receivers (once they have been flashed with the same ELRS firmware). I have a video on how I've flashed my R9 module with the ELRS firmware if you'd like to watch it as a reference. Its available here kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6GsaKF9YquMmMk . ExpressLRS also has a very good website with instructions on how to accomplish everything. Its avaiable here www.expresslrs.org/2.0/quick-start/firmware-options/ .

@TMacFPV3 жыл бұрын
correct, the TX12 does not have the "4 chips in one" multi-protocol module. Instead, it has the CC2500RF chip that supports the following receiver protocols: FrSky ACCST D16 and D8, Hitec, Radiolink, Graupner HoTT, Futaba SFHSS, and Corona. It DOERS have a standard-size multi-protocol module "bay" that you can purchase an external multi-protocol module and connect to it (such as Crossfire, Express LRS, etc. What you're looking for is that your transmitter and the receiver on your quadcopter are using the same protocol (speak the same language). If you're thinking opf purchasing a bind-and-fly (BNF) quadcopter that already has a receiver installed on it and this transmitter, I would get a quadcopter that has the FrSky ACCST D16 or D8 receiver. That protocol ("language") is supported (i.e. "spoken") by the TX12 transmitter. You're on the right track. In my opinion, this TX12 transmitter is the best-value for a "rookie FPV pilot." For more of my recommendations and explanations for them feel free to visit my site on this page tmacfpv.com/fpv-drone-gear/ and for a complete structured, "never before flown a drone to actually flying FPV" check out the Fast Track FPV Course Curriculum here to see if its a good fit for you tmacfpv.thinkific.com/courses/fast-track-fpv

@@TMacFPV so if I purchase a module it will add additional protocol that it would support, and if I want a different one it would require additional purchase again, is this correct?(though I would imagine most would stick to maybe one or 2 and keep it under the same set of protocols)
@TMacFPV3 жыл бұрын
@@Cons2911 usually pilots choose what protocol they want to fly with and use a receiver with that protocol. If you're purchasing a BNF quadcopter, you need to determine what protocol that specific version of the quadcopter's onboard receiver uses (for example, FrSky D8 or D16 is most common) before you purchase it. Your transmitter needs to support that protocol. The TX12 supports the most common protocols, however, if you need/want more (for some reason), there are external 4-in-1 (4 chips in 1) multi-protocol modules you can purchase and plug into the back of the TX12. Theses "4-in-1" multi-protocol modules have not only the same protocols the TX12 does "internally," but also MANY, MANY more. You only need to purchase one of these 4-in-1 modules to plug into the back of your TX12 (if you need it at all). Here's a link to the type of 4-in1 module I'm speaking of that plugs into the back of the TX12. www.racedayquads.com/products/jumper-jp4in1-multi-protocol-2-4ghz-transmitter-module . Your transmitter will need to have power in order to control the quadcopter. It's battery lasts much longer than a quadcopters battery. A quad's battery lasts (depending on the type, size, etc.) between 3-30inites. Your transmitter battery charge will last for 8-10 hours. You will get much better control signal quality with Crossfire. Here's a Playlist of a few videos I have on Crossfire explaining it TBS Crossfire: kzbin.info/aero/PLKAiYAaTdvmo2pW-JWLDRjJ3Pohjis0jA

@@alienfpv "Custom sensitivity?" If you mean how your quadcopter acts to your stick inputs, you can do that several ways. Using internal battery only, I set the module using the Lua Script in TX12 to Dynamic Power OFF and set max power to 1 watt. Looked at actual module screen itself and it showed it at only 500 mW (and no green light although receiver appeared to be working fine?). Plugged in external lipo connected to Croissfire Module. Hey Don, congrats! RadioMaster has better customer service, quality, etc. www.radiomasterrc.com/support#a04 I switched from Jumper brand to RadioMaster myself. I like the scroll wheel on the RadioMaster TX12 better, I like the switches (instead of the "momentary buttons- A & D") on the TX12. Halls sensor gimbals should last longer than non-Hall, however, not sure with the Jumper brand. Honestly the 4-in-1 "multi-protocol" I haven't found to be all that useful, simply because i tend to stick to 1-2 protocols of receivers I know that work. So, both transmitters have FrSky ACCST protocol capability. both have a standard JR module bay (for Crossfire, etc.). If you think you'll be using this transmitter for an extended period of time (I.e. you won't be upgrading to the RadioMaster TX16S anytime soon), actually might be inclined to go with the Jumper T12 Pro (for the switches and Hall gimbals) over the TX12 and roll the dice with the quality of the transmitter I get. For instance, my Jumper T16 (1st batch) worked great for me, however, subsequent batches of the Jumper T16 for other users failed a lot. Don't know if I actually helped you out or not! May have made things more "muddy" for you. Anyway, here's my recommendations on the sitetmacfpv.com/fpv-transmitters/

This would be a nice upgrade from my Flysky FS-i6s -- I'd love to get one of these w/o potentiometer gimbals just for longevity. For just drone FPV flying this seems perfect to me and not superfluous like the T16/TX16/T18 bigger brother variants. :D

You would love it it fits perfectly in your hand the only issue is it does drain battery power fast but as far as flying it makes me feel like a pro lol I just can't get the xm+ d8/d16 to bind up ???? I was told I had to do a calibration frequency test

You did put the rssi on a sensor input because it is f.port right? Can't you simply in betaflight select the channel 12 (If I recall well!) Or is that a xm specificity? Else great video good to go over the basics again. 😉 Next small radio to check would be the T-lite from jumper. Thanks!

This is S Port, not F Port. Same process though, so yes need to transmit the RSSI back to FC for OSD

Hmm, I'm thinking this could be a good back-up for my tx16s (when it gets here). That way if I brick my transmitter (as I just did) I won't have to sit around for a week waiting for UPS to bring me a new one.

I think its a great little "backup TX." Just dropped my TX16S Max along with my goggles on the ground a couple days ago. Broke two switches on my TX16S! Awaiting arrival of new switches to replace broken ones. glad I have "backups."

@@TMacFPV - I'm thinking to use this TX12 with TBS CRSF Tx module as my main radio. I love smaller form factor, and there is absolutely nothing missing in TX12 I might ever need. I don't like heavy/bulky radios. TX12 quality seems way better than what would we usually get for that low price. Internal charging, USB-C, can be powered with 18650s or LiPo (I belive 2s). OK, it does not have Hall effect Sensor gimbals, but it'd be unrealistic to expect that at this price point. The best of all, my local FPV shop just restocked with hall gimbals for T8SG V2/V3 & T12 TRANSMITTER, and even better, they are $11 CAD per gimbal. Easily and for a dirt cheap to turn TX12 into Hall sensor gimbals radio. What's not to like about it? :)

@@AddictedQuadroner I know right?!? Good call! I've already upgraded to the Hall gimbals in mine. Very simple replacement. Couple screws, plug 'n' play!

Am I the only one bothered by the lack of 2 position switches? I've been flying with switches for arming, buzzer and gps rescue for the longest time, all of which require 2 position switches, having the third position is annoying and I fear "overshoothing" the correct position, especially when disarming quickly, it's the main reason keeping me from buying this. Is there any way to change them out for 2 position ones?
@TMacFPV4 жыл бұрын
You can probably change the switches out, however, to do what you want with current switches, just make the yellow bar in Betaflight cover 2 if the 3 positions. Essentially, you'll then have 2-position switches. Active in two positions and inactive in 1
@andreabotti994 жыл бұрын
@@TMacFPV I haven't thought of that, however I'd still like to think about it, thanks for the suggestion though.

Good day. In the plans of wanting to buy radio controllers, the question arose in the choice, so that it would also be for the future. There are plans to create airplanes, quadcopters with short-distance flights, and glasses for photos and videos. Is it worth taking a 4 in 1 multi-protocol, or is it better to take it with erls I chose the following radio controllers - - TX16S Mark II MAX Radio Controller (Customized Version) - AG01 Gimbal or V4.0 Gimbal - TX16S Mark II Radio Controller (Mode 2) - V4.0 Hall Gimbal or AG01 Hall Gimbal - TX12 Radio Controller Mode 2, Which of them is the best to be compact and last for a long time, I would like precision in control. I want to choose two: Example: - TX12 Radio Controller Mode 2 - TX16S Mark II MAX Radio Controller (Customized Version) - AG01 Gimbal or V4.0 Gimbal or - TX12 Radio Controller Mode 2 - TX16S Mark II Radio Controller (Mode 2) - V4.0 Hall Gimbal or AG01 Hall Gimbal Is one of these better for now and for the future: - TX16S Mark II MAX Radio Controller (Customized Version) - AG01 Gimbal or V4.0 Gimbal - TX16S Mark II Radio Controller (Mode 2) - V4.0 Hall Gimbal or AG01 Hall Gimbal - TX12 Radio Controller Mode 2 Or buy 4 in 1 - TX12 Radio Controller Mode 2 And from ЕРЛС - TX16S Mark II MAX Radio Controller (Customized Version) - AG01 Gimbal or V4.0 Gimbal or - TX16S Mark II Radio Controller (Mode 2) - V4.0 Hall Gimbal or AG01 Hall Gimbal Thanks for the advice

What's the max range you have actually achieved using the TX12 with Crossfire module? I'm wondering if I should just get the TX16 because I've seen people fly 4km without Crossfire on it. Thanks for the help!
@TMacFPV4 жыл бұрын
Let me see if I can help you out Samey. First of all, I have never (and will never) reach the maximum range of the TBS Crossfire system. You see, it operates at the 900MHz band which has much greater range and penetration abilities than what most transmitters operate at the 2.4 GHz band. This will be true with whatever transmitter you have the module installed. This allows you to fly through and around objects (trees, buildings, etc.) without worrying about losing your control signal, whereas with 2.4Ghz you may have issues. So, if you wish to fly "long-range" (and your government rules allow it in the region in of which you fly) or through/around obstacles, you will eventually want to get the Crossfire system. Yes, if you are flying in an "open field-type" environment with little to no obstructions and no interference from other sources, the normal 2.4 ghz band will work fine for most of your needs. If you're asking if you should get the TX12 with the Crossfire module OR the TX16S without the Crossfire module, here's my opinion. If you're looking for a more long-term, future-proof transmitter, go with the TX16S. It's just a MUCH better transmitter. You can see comparisons and my thinking on each of these on my site here tmacfpv.com/fpv-transmitters/ . Then, when you're able, get the TBS Crossfire Micro TX V2 module. Hope this helps!

Hey Bob! I haven't used one of those modules myself, however, I'll tell you what I DO know. The TX12 comes with a standard-size "JR" module bay which connects with standard-size external multi-modules. Per the official site multi-module.org , one of the currently "available" multi-modules is the iRangeX IRX4 plus. See this site for more details: www.multi-module.org/basics/module-hardware

No need to apologize at all. Yes, in Betaflight you set up the Arming Switch (or any switch) up in the Modes Tab (for most things) or the Adjustments Tab (for a few other options). Since you're "new," you may find the Fast Track FPV Course useful. "Fast Track" to get you flying & having fun quickly & responsibly. Check out the curriculum here to see if it's a good fit for you. It covers 3verything you need to know to get started the right way in FPV in a structured, straight-forward way (saves time over hunting & searching for answers).
