Finally a video documentation series on dyno testing an rx8 and supporting mods correctly. I am taking a similar approach, but just doing a before and after of no mods versus all the mods.

I am super proud like finally! Our beloved Mazda rx-8 is getting hyped and is being more appreciated now! ❤

That oil filter location makes me glad to be a series 2 owner.

My race RX8 was making around 210whp. With around 1075kg, 5.8 rear crown wheel, Samsonas dog-box it was definitively faster than a Miata :). I'm doing a REW swap now :)

On my 1st gen rx7's I've owned i took a screwdriver and hammer and knocked a hole in the top of the filter which let's the oil drain down into the engine and out the drain plug. It always made a less mess. What's your thoughts on that?

NGK coils and wires, one occasion where NGK isn't any good, leads are just about up to the job, Mazda rejected NGK for their coil manufacturer as the failure rate was too high (in the early days) since then there have been 4 versions of oem coils. I believe at least 1 version was manufactured by Hitachi

Good to know. Mine has new NGK coils from the PO. Guess I'll plan to replace soon
@paulvernon416011 ай бұрын
@@liamflynn6929 add to the fact that original NGK aren't any good, the fact that they are copied and sold on eBay, so then you have fake NGK coils as well. I've seen whole sets for the same price as 1 Mazda revision C coil

Always love your sense of humour. I think getting the oil filter off on our aussie rhd versions is harder and don't talk about the cuts you get changing an ssv soleniod. Only way I got my rx8 to go faster was semi-slicks, better pads, coilovers and track driver instructors. The number of times an instructor has said put it flat and I say it is already makes me laugh. Having said that the chassis is excellent and you are not going to pop yourself with massive oversteer.😂

HELL YES!! Looking forward to this man. I noteced a big improvement in my RX8 after fitting brand new sparks after I bought the car cheap!

Could you actually measure how much AC robs? And when doing the exhaust, how much getting rid of just the cat makes

Great video! Really look forward to seeing the future videos. Mine sounds just the same as yours on starting, which makes sense considering I have the low budget “refresh” 😂

So is the 20w50 better than 10w40 or is it just because your taking it to the dyno and going to take it through it’s paces.

My 04 put down 186hp on 3 dyno runs back in 2010 it was stock too I love the smooth shifts and handling miss the 8 But my turbo 2 rx7 boost and street port was so much more fun…but no ac 😢

So is renewable lubricants 4 stroke oil also meant to be burned? I've heard of their 2 stroke oil for premixing but not normal engine oil. I've been using Royal Purple but I would definitely be down to switch if that's healthier (which it likely is)

There is no way that miata was going to beat me but the 25kg (50lb) I put on eating sandwiches starting the rx8 tipped the balance 😂

It’s a real shame you guys over the pond didn’t get the 231ps manual it’s an amazing car!
@alexblasingame102011 ай бұрын
Does the rx8 not have a wide open throttle relay to cut power to the ac motors clutch ? when you go “WOT” that can only ever mean your asking for all of it, not all but the few we need for that creature comfort .

164 hp. On the AC question...I've run AC thermo calculations before. Theoretically the AC should need somewhere between 5 and 8 hp depending on the size of the compressor.

And I remember seeing some videos explaining that the RX8 ECU won't give full power on a dyno cause the front wheels aren't rotating. Anyone else remember that?

Nice video brother. This is much appreciated. Every video I watch of yours gets me that much more confident in purchasing an RX8 for a weekender. I better be quick though... Most Japanese cars of that era and category are flying up in value here in Australia 🦘

Black oil? I can always see through the amber colored oil every oil change. Maybe Mazda Golden is a little better than parts store oil...

If it doesn’t drive Ernie crazy…. Please bring the AC belt. My wife hates that I won’t run it. 🤣🤣

in case you want to know how it is to start up a healthy rx8 i have two shorts on my profile for both a hot and a cold start >.< I guess good to get confirmation that mine is indeed good haha. Also i see the radio acting up there, giving it a push on the half moon part of the radio fixed it for me.. otherwise you can take the facia off and clean the connections edit: nvm just go to the part where you do that exact thing

I'll guess 152 whp that hot start seemed kinda long

Can anyone help me? Bought a used 2004 rx-8 off fb marketplace (Ik) with a bunch of mods, put in a new clutch, spark plugs, ignition coils, wires, battery, alternator, oil, coolant, manual transmission fluids changed, and got brakes readjusted, today I am loosing power when accelerating, engine doesn’t sound right, exhaust is wayyy louder than normal and dying at idle (I hope it needs a new fuel pump or barometer sensor) and I’m praying it doesn’t need a rebuild, it’s at 109,000 miles and was rebuilt at 70,000 also it’s straight piped and has throttle control any ideas?

Also got a compression test and dealership said it passed

I think it's gonna make 140 at the wheels with the old plugs, and it starts like it has an ignition issue

Eek. I'm kinda worried about how depressing the Dyno results will be. I prefer the smileometer when you actually drive them. Then gauge power on a butt Dyno only.
