Thanks again JC. This is just the information I'm looking for. This weekend on the Hobie, my rudder control was on the left and right and I naturally used the one on my left. Fantastic review. Wow great commentary on car topping w the longer kayak being easier. I’m looking at the three sportsman models and the 106 w minn kota. For lakes and ponds. Lakes sometimes get 2’ plus whitecaps on the way home. What should i consider?

Thanks for the review. I'm still kinda torn between the pdl and the 120. I plan on going off the beach and trolling up and down the beaches for nearshore Spanish and Kings, as well as travel to the nearshore islands. The pdl seems the most versatile but the motor seems to last for hours. Argghhh help!!! Haha!

Is there a kayak company that offers pedal drive with the ability to add a motor? Or be able to swap out the drive with the motor depending on your needs?

Sorry for the late reply. I missed this comment for some reason. In Fl. I had to register the kayak. Make sure it gets registered as a canoe/kayak and not a boat. Boat registration costs more in Fl.. The battery is located under the seat.

Sounds like you would love the predator MK. It’s 13 foot with an electric motor. That’s the one I have.

I have the 2020 14 ft Hobie Pro Angler 360 turn ratio. I also spent for an "Island Hopper" 46 lbs thrust trolling motor to attach quickly from peddling to get out to an island quickly. Then I switch out back to peddling to fight fish from structure from a 360 turn ratio. I also have the option to take the mirage drive (peddling device) out to paddle for extremely low tide or just leave the mirage drive in with the fins spread out against the hull. If I don't have water to get over, then I put the wheels in the scupper holes and roll along the sand or other surfaces. There is a x-large bow storage on the 14. A large on the 12ft Hobie PA 360. A plus is when the judgement of the battery gets too low to get back, I switch over to peddling. If the peddling (mirage) breaks, then I paddle. If the paddle breaks or get lost, call or radio for help!! I have all these options into one Kayak. The cost is higher because of the name of Hobie but it does have quality! If you add all those Kayaks you spent, you would have the Hobie PA 360 mirage and some extra accessories. Then you would have all your differences solved! I'm retired and do not work for Hobie! with the price you pay for a hobie, you might as well buy a boat. Hobie is good but so is BMW. But i'll take Lexus over that all day.

@@STILLPHENOM Boats don't go over shallow waters well and through rocky creeks and some real shallow waters where you have to put wheels on to get across. I sold my boats, by the way, to make it work where I do live on the water. I also go a few miles out with the Hobie. Works well! Hobie is the Lexus because as explained, it does it all. Even sailing! Just buy the Hobie sail and slip into the mass hole. Boats can't leave any time of the day where I live. Tides prevent this. I can go anytime....

The 106 is great for Saltwater all around as well with the exception of areas where there are large ocean swell type waves or in areas where there are yachts cruising at high speeds! The 106 is saltwater ready. I've fished all over in the 106 and have also noticed recently that I feel safer in it than in the Predator when I'm fishing in medium fast current areas.

I've heard you state on multiple videos that you have been out fishing for 10 hours on the 106 sportsman powered by Minnkota. So, I have to say that statement could be misleading, and troubling in making a decision to buy this kayak. How much of that 10 hours is run time on the battery, especially when Old Town posts the run time as 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Thanks for commenting. I understand what you are saying because before using the kayak i was concerned about how long I'd be able to fish before losing power. I've been stating the facts of my experience when I say I've fished ten hours and still had plenty of power according to the tester on the kayak. . I usually start fishing within twenty minutes of launching. I've fished no less than ten times in this kayak for 8 hours plus now and still had two bars on the battery tester on the kayak. I've fished in wind and current moving around a lot to stay positioned and have had plenty of battery at the end of eight to ten hours of fishing. I'm pretty sure In this video you watched i stated that there are variables that effect the life of the battery. I am very please with the results so far. Thanks for watching.

You still haven't answered my question to satisfaction. Basically speaking did you have that battery running 10 hours straight or were you just out there 10 hours and during that time you stopped you turn the battery off you started again maybe an hour later stopped and started again, etc... your 10 hours is inconsistent with the two hour and 30 minute battery run time that Old Town posts.

@@richardrubenstein9587 Richard maybe I can help in answering this question. I had an 11ft Jon boat with a foot control 45 lbs bow mount motor with a 100 ah deep cycle battery. I can fish about a day and half on one battery. Granted your not running the battery constantly. You launch the boat go to your fishing spot and shut off the motor. Bringing an anchor also helps not running the battery down. There were 5 speeds on the motor. usually speed 3 was used to get to my spot and speed 1 to hold position. I never had a problem running out of juice. Always use a deep cycle battery and not a car starting battery. On a kayak, weight is your enemy, so if you can afford it, go with a lithium deep cycle battery. hope this helps. :)

Just use a baitcast rod and reel In the 106 then the rod will be in your left hand and the right will be free for the throttle.

Ha, I'm back here cause I'm looking for a lighter addition to my kayak fleet of 1. I love my 120 AutoPilot but I'm looking for a grab and go that's lighter. The 106 sportsman will fit in my Caravan with the back hatch closed so that solves the storage problem. I can take it and leave the 120 in the Man Cave or i can swap them out without violating he HOA rules. I need to find out how much easier it is to load and unload the 106 than the the 120. I think it's a solid 26 lbs lighter just counting the hull weights without Seats and drives. I don't know how that difference in weight feels. I think the only way for me to find out is actually try one out. What a shame that I can't drop the 120 46 lb thrust motor with spot lock into the 106. That would wrap it up for me. Dang mfgrs.

Hi Steve, the front end of the 106 is lighter than the Autopilot 120, but because the 106 is shorter the overall distributed weight is more condensed. I think testing one out is the way to go.
