I am bedbound for 3years now. It startet when I was 28years old. Now I am out of work, no family, my friends developed and I lost contact to them. I am totally alone and on my own and I often think of committing suicide.... So I am very happy to hear the recovery stories, which show me a little perspective❤️🙏🏽

Do you have a day planner? Do you have hours when you are better? Remember you only have to get those 15 hours (you sleep 9 (if you sleep) ) of a day back, that's all. You only have to conquer a day. But your situation is hard, no family no friends and no money, well that's a fact no need for depression episodes wich just making you so down that you can't even build a plan for conquering the day. Basically in this video is everything you need and there are so much more videos about CFS/ME. You got this! But you need a positive directions. I was like you for two years, now 2 years and 10 months I am at 88% and the joy of life is back, maybe it would be a good Idea that some one who went through CFS/ME talk to your family & friends, so they will know what a rotten soul's they are too leave you in your worst. I think they are like that because they can't understand and you and all CFS/ME sufferers just can't explained while you are "ill".

I so appreciate Miguel talking about the role medication played in his recovery story as I too had a similar experience. I was so unwell I hadn't slept for weeks and was in a constant panic attack and couldn't function until I found the right medication to calm things down. I felt so upset about taking it for a while as alot of recovery stories talk about the completely natural path to recovery, I felt worried that I could never get there taking medication. However like you said sometimes you need help to get into that place where you can even do the things that are beneficial. My coach called it getting into the "band of tolerance". I so appreciate you sharing your story Miguel, absolutely inspiring xx

Thank you for this video. Miguel‘s grandparents sound like such sweet people, and they cared for him so much. I hope they got to see him healthy again! Yes, there is a lot of resistance to brain training because me/cfs was and still often is seen as a psychological nor physical illness. I think part of the danger is that people fear talking about brain training will continue to misalign me/ cfs as a psychological and not physical illness.

Really cool interview! Usually I skip some parts but I've listened to the whole thing. Thanks guys and congratz Miguel to becoming a thriver that also survives! I used to be the guy that pushed things like training, working and partying to the extreme, not putting the glass down until I tapped out, not putting the barbell down until I puked or almost puked, and shifting between these back and forth every half year because I pushed myself into a very significant overtraining or even a severe burnout once after combining 38h of physically demanding shiftwork, 6-7 days of training per week, 1-2 days of intense partying, bad diet, sleep and hydration, no sense for what my body was telling me and my perfectionistic and anxious personality traits. I believe that the doctors actually being able to explain it, so properly and in such a frequency is just phenomenal! I got my diagnosis last year after 6 years, and just this year heard about brain retraining and an actual scientific and proper explanation of what could be going on. This challenge or transforming event, or the Pain Teacher as Paul Chek calls it, really helped me to learn a lot of very important and necessary lessons, becoming way more mature, objective, realistic, respecting my limits more, learning how to achieve goals, assertiveness and so on. Since around 5 months I'm finally moving forward again, got out of 1,5 years of severe depression, alcohol and tobacco abuse, went from 22h lying down to 15h lying down, lost 14kg, had some at least mentally very uplifting forenoons throughout the last two weeks and have made some other progress. I'm poor and my family is a mess but I've got a momentum going on here, a supportive practitioner that really helps me financially, a great plan, have learned some great tools that I use daily, have confidence on most days and I have myself. I just hope that the next challenges get stuck in traffic until I overcome this one haha. Thanks Raelan for doing these videos and thanks Miguel for what you've shared, appreciate you guys! Love and strength, Thomas

Ohh ur really going through it ! But ur so postitive ! Happy I have found a Councillior to talk to .. I’ve had 1 for depression but due to a very stressful home situation I never really dealt with with me or health conditions to be honest there’s a massive demand for them now & I think their churning g them out quick & in this last 6-7 yrs of seeming 3 different ones none seem to understand or have any background in anything much to help . I know I might sound like a harsh but when U ve got big problems with 1 if ur children & money etc worries the last thing u need is to get so ill u can’t help anyone & with this illness ppl don’t understand much less family .. I think if ur always on the go & u stop they translate ‘ Can’t ‘ for don’t want to .. I missed a few family things .& it’s so hard to explain & ppl think ur tired u have some early nights or nights just rest & ppl r ok & then u get sick of saying ur tired , sick of feeling in pain with really odd pains .. A ll we have here is pain Management their very nice but all they do is write down sites to go on . ( which usually r animated explaining that ur not really feeling any pain because ppl who lose a leg etc can still feel it but knowing it’s not there ) which I couldn’t understand So basically no help & leads u to believe it’s all in your Head like ur a hyper condi act .! .. I ve only just understood what pacing REALLY means .. Your story’s inspiring too good luck with the rest of ur recovery ! X

Thank you Miguel, and also Raelan. So much wisdom, strength and hope from your experiences of recovery, so generously shared. I agree Raelan that it is worth noting that even though many of us may have given up on Medication that, it might (and has) played a part in the recovery of some people. I would also like to add, that for so people it has played a massive part in the onset of their CFS/ME too. So something to continue to be wary of and fully informed about. Miguel mentioned Ativan which is a Benzodiapine. Benzodiazepines should not be prescribed for longer than 2-4 weeks, including taper. For a significant group of people, these drugs can cause paradoxical effect (as Miguel mentioned in his first experience with Ativan) and detrimental effect, especially related to withdrawal - which can be protracted. My own CFS/ME was 'triggered' by a medication toxicity from prescribed medication. What I have learnt from my experience is that if I were to ever accept the advice of a prescriber to take a prescription medication again, that I would ask them to clarify the guidelines for use/prescription of that medication and detail a supported tapering plan. Unfortunately many doctors know how to prescribe, but don't understand how to safely taper people off medications that cause adverse effects. The patient is then often blamed for they symptoms caused by the medication (ie they have underlying mental health issue) which results in poly-drugging and a viscious cascade of iatrogenic harm.

So many nuggets of wisdom here. It's SO true (like what @rundmc1 says in his videos) that CFS often happens to A-Type personalities and overachievers! My friend told me that getting Long COVID was to teach me something. Besides learning the importance of nutrition/supplements, rest and the (symp./parasym.) nervous system, I couldn't understand what deeper lesson there was. Thanks to Miguel for teaching me to be grateful for having the disease, that crashing is not the time to become frustrated / angry, but a reminder that pushing ourself to the max is harmful, not productive. Thank you Raelan for this wonderful, eye-opening interview!

I’m always of two minds when I hear about stories like Miguel’s. On the one hand, I’ll always cheer on anyone who recovers from this horrible illness (which I’ve had for over 20 years). I’ll always cheer on people like Raelan, who are trying to provide inspiration. On the other hand, I’ll remain skeptical until I have a fuller view of the various programs that promote cures. And, by the way, I didn’t hear the words ME/CFS from either Raelan or Miguel during this interview. So right from the get-go, I’m wondering if Miguel was diagnosed with this illness, and if he was, why he didn’t specifically mention that. I think there are two basic reasons for skeptics like me. One, is the history of medical communities psychologizing ME/CFS. It can seem like many of these programs promoting their cures are doing the same, under the cover of terms like “brain rewiring” or “brain retraining.” It’s as if we can think our way out of ME/CFS, by thinking more positively, or differently, than we have in the past. But then again, the videos I’ve seen are long on the testimonial part and very short on how any particular program is implemented. For that, you have to fork over cash. Another reason for my skepticism-and that of many others-is that over the years we’ve tried so many supplements, techniques, processes. We desperately want to get better, and so are willing to try anything. When Miguel says the problem is we’re looking for external fixes and not willing to do the internal work, I think he misses the mark. When you’re this ill, you’ll try just about anything. Miguel is not unique in this. For instance, I practiced mindfulness meditation-not for a couple of weeks-but for about 3 years. It definitely helped me cope with the stress and depression of being ill. But it sure didn’t cure me. I guess what I’m trying to say here is that inspiration is well and good, but without a strong scientific underpinning--for me, at least--it rings a bit hollow.

What I've noticed in many of these programs, is that they'll take an idea that makes sense, and run with it to an extreme that doesn't make sense, or is at least highly questionable. For instance, it makes sense that calming down the central nervous system is a good thing. Because those of us with ME know that stress exacerbates our symptoms. But to then make that the centerpiece of a cure? Sorry, I'm not buying it.

I think it s a critical piece of the jigsaw! Most chronic disorders are connected to maladaptive stress response! There is so much science behind how a malfunctioning autonomic nervous system impacts on physiological symptoms! The body gets stuck in fright flight like a faulty alarm system! It makes complete sense to me. The brain re training needs discipline p, focus, and consistency, that’s the hard bit!

Thank you so much Raelan. I am very grateful that even though you have a full-time job, a partner, and probably lots of things you want to do on your free time, you always find time to give this awesome material to the rest of the world. I always look forward to your videos and watch them with a cup of tea while resting a bit from work!!! Thanks so much to Miguel for the interview, it is impressive how far he has gone, and the passion he has to give back sharing his story.

Sounds exactly like everyone that got cfs after a move into a moldy building. Feeling run down, then BAM, Massive panic attack. I remember mine in applebees. He either moved houses when he changed job, or his workplace was the culprit. His tolerance to stress came down, not the other way around we assume it to be. Millions of athletes push themselves constantly and see only improvement. An notice how all his breakthroughs came from a change in environment. Its no coincidence, they appear in every recovery story.

I got COVID March last year and did not deal with it. I went into fight or flight and convinced myself I’d end up in hospital. I had a 3 month old baby and didn’t cope well. I got over covid but developed “long covid” or what I believe is CFS due to my body in constant stress. I’ve done so much work this year to help myself, I’m on anti anxiety meds and my pain has massively gone down. I’m so so much better than I was BUT the fatigue is getting worse..I wonder if it’s because I came out of fight or flight which is why I wasn’t tired at the time but am now. This was 18 months ago it began. My fatigue is getting worse and I’m getting a bit scared! What brain training programme can you recommend? I did a lot of research on dr joe dispenza and that helped me over come the pain side of things. I’m ready to move on from this shitty fatigue and love my life again!! I’ve been out walking today with my family and the pain and exhaustion now is getting me down tonight. Grateful I’ve found this Channel

Hi Emma, I am so sorry to hear that you have been facing all of this. I can't even imagine what this has been like with a baby! I'm sending so much love to you, I hope you find your puzzle pieces needed to get past this as quickly as possible. I didn't personally use any brain training programs, so I don't know which to recommend. There are more and more options out there though - wishing you all the best in finding what's best for you ❤️

Sounds like mental and physical exhaustion...somebody mentioned nervous breakdown. This is quite different from CF /ME. These artificial drinks and stimulants ...yes you were fatigued. Taking back control of your life healthy wise is fatigue but not CF ME. Bless you for sharing. Most of the CF people I know are not fanatics....health wise. I think you are describing psychological condition. Nervous breakdown due to bad diet.

Miguel most likely blew out his adrenal glands and that is not a good thing. He stressed himself out big time. Live blood analysis is a great start. Im going in for it again this thursday. Got sick again and its been 2 weeks now and lack of energy bigtime.

Adrenal fatigue is a myth, it goes higher up than that - it's the HPA axis in the brain (which is the control centre for the andrenals) that becomes dysfunctional, not the adrenal glands themselves. This is what all the research is showing. It's a software issue, not a hardware issue, which is why so many people recover with brain retraining programs ☺

Surprisingly they weren’t completely blown out! Will you mount a stimulants I was doing I totally would’ve thought I fried my adrenals, luckily they were on the very borderline of the point of no return. @@quevicular There's lots of research out there, but if you're looking for a summary, I've heard Ari Whitten or Chris Kresser talk about it before, if you search their names and adrenal fatigue, you should find some KZbin videos or articles. Hope that helps!

I like this channel, really I do... but the recurring theme is.. the person comes on, they say how they got sick... they DO NOT SHARE ANY DETAIL ABOUT HOW THEY RECOVERED... They put a link to a consultancy website where they charge a fee... not one... NOT ONE person actually says the details of what they do to heal... not one.... point to one video please that states ok... I did a brain retraining programme... that goes like this .. step 1) step2) step3) no... you have to drop hundreds of dollars to even get to speak to someone. Its not right.

I agree. Also, just because you have recovered from CFS it doesn’t mean you’re an expert on CFS recovery. Everyone is different. I think it’s appalling that Miguel charges thousands of dollars for his ‘program’ knowing how much people with cfs struggle financially. I did one of his ‘cheaper’ programs and can tell you right now it was not worth the money. All the info included is already available for free online. The ‘coaches’ are just some people who did his recovery jumpstart program who, for the most part, have no understanding of trauma, somatic practices or other essential tools for recovering. Overall I have learned nothing from his program. The only reason I joined was because they promised a one a one appointment with a coach where they give you a plan. The coach cancelled on me twice and couldn’t get another appointment. I just wanna say to people, be careful with all these programs. Some are not worth the money.

His story is nearly identical to my hellish journey that ruined my life/health for nearly 30 years. I'd work 6 months & sleep 6 months. & repeat the cycle my entire adult life. I have little to no memory of 30 years of my life due to the nightly fevers & other brain decline symptoms. I couldn't remember my own zip code half the time! I stayed to myself & hid this from friends/family/didn't tell a soul since they'd assume I had dementia & put me in a home by age 30. A VERY important root cause they failed to mention is Epstein Barr Virus (EBV)! About 3% of the population are genetically wired to struggle with chronic EBV, which reactivates the second you get run down. I had to figure this out myself, about 25 different MD's told me 'I was fine...it was all in my head' 🙄since I looked healthy & my labs were normal the entire time. Knowing conventional healthcare had failed me - I took functional medicine courses (despite my debilitating brain fog!) & wrote everything down since I had zero memory. After ~5 years of study when my brain permitted - I suspected EBV yet none of the 25 MD's had ever tested my levels. & sure enough, I was right - my acute infection & past EBV infection levels were the highest the MD had ever seen! I'm now on anti-virals to keep EBV at bay & I'm a semi-normal functional human for the first time in my adult life. I also had to address long-term insomnia & gut dysfunction that had come along with all this viral-induced suffering - but I'm healthier in my 50's than I was in my 20's! 👏 Sorry for long post, just trying to help others in case this hellscape sounds familiar. Be well!

"TIME BLINDNESS" This person is always Consistently LATE TO ALL APPOINTMENTS, MEETINGS, GET TOGETHERS, Bible Studies meetings. People think the tardy people are disrespectful, inconsiderate of other people schedules . This person feels powerless. Not able to fix it fix the behavior. Not able. Too many Traumas experienced. Over 30 years time. Can anybody relate?? Chronic exhaustion & Fibromyalgia SYNDROME disability.😢😢😢😢 Have no more close buddies to discuss possible solutions. Fears might be the main thing. Yet generally we think positive words in her mind. Even look forward happily.
