Just viewed your posting. I was stationed at Gaydon,(National Service) 1959/60. I served in the Fire and Crash Rescue section and we were on duty for the air show. The event took place on the 17th. September, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. I have a souvenir book printed for the occasion. Thank you for bringing back such pleasant memories. Well, may be not the fact that we had to assist the contractors to dismantle the public toilets at the end of the day. Thanks again.

Thanks Ken What memories, I lived at Harbury at the time, and we always used to go to the Airshow, in the mid 60´s I was in the air cadets 2028 Squadron based at Southam, and we used to sell programs at the airshow , as well as flying gliders and the occasional trip on a Varsity, flying out over the Bay of Biscay, Happy Days

Thanks for sharing Ken. This brings back some wonderful memories. I was just 5 at the time. My dad was stationed there, Robert Hinton, assigned to NBS 3rd Line for electronics maint. I also went to school there, which was on the edge of the camp, just at the start of the path to Lighthorne Village. I still remember the shock when the Valiants had to be scrapped due to wing fatigue. And the magic of getting into the cockpit of a Victor and a Valiant at the airshow.

David, thanks very much for viewing despite the dull weather and poor camera work. I just wished I'd filmed more.

Does anybody know about Gaydon's wartime role? I heard it was a designated Diversion Field for the 8AAF. Would be keen to find out.
