@@abritishguy7295 I get the feeling that something else is planned to augment/replace the Wedgetails. It makes no sense to go with just three and to use second hand airframes. @abritishguy72953 жыл бұрын
@@bobthebomb1596 it will be at least 10 years before any replacement will come along, as the E-7 is one of the most advanced Early Warning aircraft at the moment, and I would rather have 6 P-8's and 6 E-7's instead of 9 P-8's and 3 E-7's
@bobthebomb15963 жыл бұрын
@@abritishguy7295 I disagree there. A single E7 can cover a vast volume of airspace. An E7 looks to around 350 nm and can thus cover an area of close to 400k nm2 from close to the surface to thousands of metres in height. This is not the case with a maritime hunter. It sees nothing underwater unless it places sonar buoys and even then has to drop a pattern to obtain the precise location and depth of a target. When an E7 aircraft is on patrol it flies for hours providing continuous data on potential targets within its coverage area. The P8 has similar duration, but only receives input from the volume of water covered by its sonar buoys (of which it has a limited supply, each with limited detection range). In short, it takes more assets to cover a given area when hunting for submarines than aircraft. Would I like more Wedgetails? Of course, but not at the expense of our maritime reconnaissance fleet. It is already too small.

You do actually understand British interests & America's interests in global ideology, military philosophy & strategic planning is intertwined intentionally so in a global conflict 1 is an extension of the other both defensive reaction plans & swift strike offensives are in alignment as no 2 other country's alliance is greater or more crucial to the deterrence of threats against stability of Democracy governed free countries globally. Collaborative research & development of latest & greatest technologies is vital while a percentage of redundant weapon platforms from war planes to shared military satellite intelligence are crucial for the operation one stategic defense initiative so functioning as 1 for a true global threat is key. Not to mention the tremendous benefit Britain gets from the US military budget and the defensive edge Britian has from this alliance as location makes Britain more susceptible than the US to need tge benefits of defensive capabilities from the US which fundamentally are mere extentions as 1 in the event of a global threat conflict arising. So the UK isn't the US's bitch, but rather the little brother who's bigger brother will kick the shit out of anyone who fucks with his familt!
