This is a video of RAF Tangmere. I would of loved to of seen it in its prime. Just imagine the serenity being shattered by a Spitfire returning from a succesful mission. Flying low over the fields.

Great to see Tangmere aerial wise. Used to live on the edge of Oving ( 1000ft away) as a boy in 60's and huge Hercules transport planes would be in and out every day. Loved looking in the buildings after it closed down, an errie feel to them, the control tower was still in good nick back then, glad it's got a Grade 2 listing now, and the museum there is well worth looking round, showing what it looked like in WW2 and onwards.

Yes, when I was stationed there it came under the control of Air Support Command. C130's always flying into the Airfield. We made ready supplies for the consignments to be despatched to all destinations.

I have been out on the airfield at Tangmere on numerous occasions. The trapped emotion there is almost touchable. You can feel the RAF people who lived and died there looking at you from their 1940 perspective. It is as if they were thinking "who is that? A man with long hair and strange denim clothes?" I always try to speak to them - just to let them know they did everything they could and now they are "Dead" they can move on and rejoin their comrades. Love, Peace and Light.

Lovely evocative Video Richard. I cannot believe the control tower has been allowed to fall into such decay. 17 years ago when I visited the place there was a move to refurbish the building. I suppose the project didn't raise enough interest or funding. Thank you for sharing. Peter Aisthorpe-Buckley ( we may be related)

Great video of what was the airfield. There's a video on my channel of Spitfire SM520 doing a display at RAF Tangmere in the summer. Was a Brilliant display, all low over my head!

So much has gone since 1979/80 when most of the technical sight and main runways were still in place. The "After the Battle Magazine" team paid a visit at that time and took a lot of then and now pictures for their future publication "The Battle of Britain Then and Now".
