RAF Tornado GR.4 Farewell: 9-Ship Formation Flypast @ RAF Marham.

Having served the country for almost 40 year's, the venerable Panavia Tornado was withdrawn from service on 31st March, 2019.
On Thursday 28th February, the engineers at RAF Marham had managed to get 11 serviceable airframes, and a formation of 9 aircraft (with 2 others airborne just in case of any problems) formed a "diamond 9" fly past at RAF Cranwell before returning to Marham and performing a selection of similar passes before landing.
This video shows the aircraft at RAF Marham conducting the 9-ship formation flypasts. There is also a bonus clip taken at RAF Cosford a few days earlier of the 3-ship flypast.
This is a great way to remember one of the UK's most significant post-war combat aircraft.

RAF making BIG mistake by terminating the Tornado, as with the Vulcan & Victor. My $2 bucks worth. I still get goose bumps every time I see them.

The thing is, the Tornado was very old, the RAF was having trouble with serviceability, as with all aircraft near their end of life.

Yes, but the Lightning was very old, hard to maintain and near obsolete when it was retired.

Damien, 385 IDS GR1 and Air Defence Variant (ADV) F2/F3 Tornados delivered, including 230 GR1s (142 later upgraded to GR4s),18 F2s and 147 F3s (retired in 2011).

Yes, F-35B Lightning, which will be jointly operated by the Royal Navy & RAF.

The Tornado role is now being carried out by Eurofighter Typhoon. They have upgraded avionics and are now capable of delivering all the inventory including Brimstone missiles and Storm Shadow Cruise Missiles. The F35B is not a Tornado replacement more an updated Harrier.

@@petejackson5832 the F-35B has always been a replacement for the Harrier. Originally it was a replacement for the Sea Harrier, but with the development time slipping it became a 'Harrier' replacement for both the RN & RAF. With the F-35B being very late into service, it has now become the Tornado replacement as well. Yes, Typhoon is currently undertaking some of the GR.4 tasks, but once the Lightning has been fully integrated into front-line operations, it will take over the role of the Tornado.

Shane that's a good question. Most Navs' will retrain on the Typhoon. Some might retrain as pilots, some will undertake exchange tours to foreign militaries. There is plenty of options.

@@shanedavis9166 Many navs also trained as commercial pilots and ended up flying with commercial airlines. I know of one personally who chose this route.
