Hello. The good old Time. I stand so many hours outside at the fence to Look starting and landing Phantoms. Greetings from Germany

The noise, smell and size of the Phantoms always made these great to watch.

Great video. I was there right at the end. Saw the end of the 'tomb' at Leuchars (EES), (posted to Wildenrath as they were being replaced), Wildenrath (ASF) and Wattisham (56 Sqn). Wildenrath was my favourite tour, with Bruggen a close 2nd! Used to walk around the camp as it emptied, it was earie and quiet. Your video really shows that.

We probably walked past each other at some point in those final days! Did you go across to Bruggen from Wildenrath, I ended up doing 18 months at each.
@WayneBotto4 ай бұрын
@picturespeaksa1000words Hi, no I went 56 Sqn at Wattisham for about 14 months, then Waddington for about 8 months, bought a house, and was then immediately posted to 14 Sqn at Bruggen!! Bruggen was nice and good to back in BFG but Preferred Wildenrath.

Thanks for posting and it brought back so many memories, My father was a Master Navigator /Co Pilot with 40 years service and was flying Pembrokes and Devons with Met Comm Squadron at RAF Northolt and was posted to RAF Wildenrath in 1964 until 1966 and was posted back to Northolt, My brother and I so much enjoyed living in MQs on the camp. and visiting the Astra Cinema every week and the family Mess 'do's' As we were in our teens and girls were important in our life every weekend we drove across the Dutch border in my MG midget to Roermond in Holland and many a good time was had, So many memories even after all these years. Happy days

I was at Bruggen at the time, my mate left Wildenrath the year before. by 1993 we were both civilians. but I returned a few years later to visit my old next door neighbour who had demobbed and stayed out in Germany and had bought an ex married quarter at Wildenrath. It seemed strange driving around the area, I have never met anybody who does not miss RAFG or serving in Germany, I think for most it was the best years of their service.

I went on a cadet camp at RAF Wildenrath in Summer 1972. One of our outings was to nearby Monchengladbach. I later learned that my uncle had also been to Monchengladbach with the RAF, almost exactly 29 years earlier, on his first operation with RAF Bomber Command.

A strange feeling, isn't it? When you walk through rooms and corridors that were once teeming with life, it seems impossible that they would ever be empty.

It didn't become a "Ghost Town". I was living there in 1999, while serving at Brüggen and Nordhorn. The married patch remained a vibrant, warm, and welcoming place for many years. Fond memories.

Very true, being single at the time I hardly ever ventured into the MQ. Looking at recent footage, very little of the actual airfield and it’s buildings still survives.

92 Sqn had been at Wildenrath briefly some years before it was stationed there with its Phantoms. In 1970 Gutersloh's runway was being resurfaced so temporary homes had to be found for 19 and 92 Sqns with their Lightnings - 92 came to Wildenrath. 4 Sqn Harriers had arrived not long before so there was a certain amount of friendly squadron rivalry.

I was MT at Wildenrath from 79 - 82. A really great posting and I was lucky enough to be at Tanker Pool for a couple of years. I'm not an aircraft buff, but I loved the Phantoms on 19 & 92 Squadrons. The ground crew on both Squadrons were great. I also remember the Malcolm Club at Wildenrath, MT had it's own table as did 19 & 92 they were either side at the back. The Mally was much more popular than the Naafi.
