Best comment on this thread. Rener Gracie’s commentary work during the Metamoris days was an example of an excellent and knowledgeable commentator with the right amount of enthusiasm and emotion/inflection in his voice to add both information and excitement to the viewing audience’s experience. Unfortunately, Rener can’t shut the fuck up and stick to the task at hand w/o inserting a Gracie jiujitsu advertisement/reference every 10 seconds, which completely ruins that experience. But, that’s the kind of guy we need, minus the shameless plugs.

I really hope grappling competitions step up their commentator game. Some are great, most are horrific; I guess, in the grand scheme of things, I'd rather promoters pay their athletes well over paying high level commentators, but stuff like this takes away fro the great athletes competing. If you don't much other than a few stats, don't say anything else about them, comment on the match, talk about strategy, educate those who don't grapple about the arts that do... etc. While Rafael Lovato Sr. is a great person, and brought BJJ to Oklahoma, I am not sure most would call him a legend as the commentator stated. Both Hinger and Lovato have competed and won WAY more than is seems, listening to the commentators. It's like the guy commentating was given 2 stats and told about Lovato's Pressure Passing DVDs and a couple of stats about Hinger and told he's a "good guy". I mean.... these two competitors are some of the best, and have been for a number of years. Hone your craft, if commentating is your craft.

Solid match. Poor commentary. Talking about a 5 lb difference on the scales and how lovato cut to get there and then they say how that’s “not much difference.” Lol, wut. If he cut to get there, it’s going to be a good bit more than just a 5 lb difference once he rehydrates and eats.

I don’t mind a female commentator, if she’s actually good. In this case, both male and female commentators are not knowledgeable to the adequate degree to do a good job at this level. Plenty of female bjj practitioners could do a far better job then both of these people.
