From this perspective you can see how much spin Rafa can generate on his iconic forehand! Contrary to popular belief, Rafa doesn't use a full western grip on his forehand, he uses a semi-western grip. He also has a straight arm at contact with the ball where other players such as Djokovic have a slight bend at the elbow at contact with the ball.
You may be wondering why the pros hit down the middle of the court so much. Well they don't just mindlessly hit the ball but aim to achieve many things. They try to hit heavy (lots of spin) deep shots close to the baseline and play around with different types/amounts of spin to get a better feel for the ball, court and conditions.
Fun fact, Nadal never smashes tennis rackets in anger and never has! This mentality was taught to him by his uncle Tony at a young age when it came to playing video games and not smashing the controller.
You can see in the video that even one of the greatest players of all time makes mistakes in practice, quite possibly more than you'd think, but he keeps working everyday.
Sorry that the glass was a bit dirty at times, I tried to avoid it as much as I could. Also this view is almost a bit too close because it can be hard to see Moya on the other side when Rafa is directly infront of me.

Years ago my brother and I were playing tennis at the condos he lived at when one of his neighbors who was from Sweden came over and asked if he could hit. He said he was a junior's champ when he was younger in Sweden. He proceeded to hit us completely off the court with the most unbelievable topspin we'd ever seen. The ball looked like it was going 3-feet out and would drop hard inside the line and jump up at you like lightning. Neither of us could do a thing with it. We'd never seen anything like it before or since in person. I can only imagine what it's like to stand opposite Rafa.

For a good time, slow the playback speed to .25 and freeze the forehand right where he has the racket at max flexed position behind him, just before beginning the swing through the ball. 5:50 shows what I'm talking about (start watching at about 5:45). Unbelievable power-producing leverage. Certainly explains those wrists and forearms.

he strikes the ball pretty flat but the spin is heavy. Notice that after the bounce, the ball hits the back wall. He couldn't whip the ball with his backhand but it's very powerful, perhaps bc he put his back/weight into it? Every hit is on the sweet spot = too good. Thanks for sharing.
