What separates Rafa from anyone else is what he says right here - "If I lose, the opponent should beat me". I remember him talking about that epic Wimbledon 2008 final the same way. If I remember right, there were several rain interruptions, including one before the final set where they were able to talk to their coaches. Rafa said to Toni something like this, "I will not lose this game. If it happens, it's because Federer took his chances. But I will not give him it." And this was when he was 21 years old. What an absolute champion.

People don’t realize that the big 3 dominated the tennis sport for more than 15 years continuously. I believe we need many many more decades to finally recognise, and really recognise what an insane achievement this domination was. And it still holds on to today. I cannot believe it truly either. Nadal completely destroyed another next gen player in the final. Djoker will most likely win Wimbledon and it looks like djoker and nadal will be the favourites for US Open win. Insane

@@shanerg77 I beg to differ, I think Roger was more of an "asshole", esp during the period where he was chasing to break Samprass' GS record. Even worst than Djokovic, somehow. He would snap at tennis reporter, belittle his opponents, and often speak arrogantly. I noticed that he started to soften up once Rafa started to challenge his dominance in 2008. It is prior to and beyond every description. Rafa is not superhuman. The guy is just a 'normal' guy who apparently can play tennis and won 22 grand slams where 14 of them are from the clays. The guy said I am just a normal guy where I think if I can do it, somebody else can... You must be joking dude. Humility, hard work, passion for the game and respect for other players, that's the sort of qualities that this 'normal' guy has, which is way above the other super talented tennis players. Vamos Rafa. Thank you for being Rafael Nadal.

I am sure we will never again see such an accomplished, gifted, intelligent, humble champion in any sport. This guy is the best ever to wield a racquet and he thinks he is a "normal" guy. I remember when he began, pundits proffered he would not last due to his physical nature of play. Thank you Rafael for proving them all wrong. I think your foot will recover and you have many more accomplishments to experience both on and off the court. The best to you always!!! You truly are an enigma!!!! I adore Rafa! One thing that has always struck me is that he sees things clearly and simply. Very early on, when his English was very rudimentary, the on-court interviewer asked him why he had just lost. He gave a funny expression (“isn’t that obvious? But, okay…) and answered, “He play better than me.” I fell for him then snd there, and watching his career has given me such joy.
