He's exactly right. No matter what his answer is the reporters will take sound bites or his words out of context in order to make a sensational headline that sells news.
@peezieforestem5078
@peezieforestem5078 Жыл бұрын
you're looking at it the wrong way. There are tonnes of reporters that don't make sensationalist titles, and guess who reads them? Not many people. If tomorrow, this news outlet starts being honest, it will fall in rating, and another dishonest one will rise to the top. They do this because there's a demand for it. When was the last time you took your time to find a good reporter and went out of your way to promote or reward them? You start by: 1) having discipline to not fall for click bait; 2) taking your time to actively look for good journalism, not just passively wait for whatever comes; 3) rewarding good journalism with more than just clicks or views. If people do this, we will see less click bait and more content. But people would never see fault in themselves, they rather blame it on the media, who operates on the same law Rafael Nadal has stated - they are rewarded for what they were able to sell / generate.

@kwilson5832
@kwilson5832 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely! I don't think that women should be paid less for doing the same work as men, but in the tennis example given, most ladies' matches are shorter than men's matches. Ladies play a maximum of 3 sets in a Grand Slam match, whereas men play a minimum of 3 sets. Also, if you were to carry out a survey on the street and ask 'who is the current Wimbledon (or French, US or Australian) champion, then most responses will be a man's name. Women just don't attract the same size audience. Rafa's example about modelling is a good one. Many women will buy clothes depending on who's modelled them, whereas men don't really care. A high profile female model could earn an organisation far more than a male model, so should be paid more accordingly. Female footballers earn less than men, but if their wages were the same, would as many people pay to watch them? Probably not. I personally think that male footballers are grossly overpaid, but if people pay to watch them play, then the demand is there. If their clubs try to pay them less then they'll move to another club. That's how business works.

I think "deserve" is the entirely wrong word here. You might "deserve" the same amount of pay for doing similar work. But if nobody wants to see you, thats irrelevant. If the customers decide what they want to see, they won't always honor those who did the best work. Thats just the way it is. He was too scared to tell the full truth though. the simple truth is that more people (including women) find the men's game significantly more interesting. @@shoelacedonkey The question posed didnt make sense. What is equal pay based on? Sportspeople are entertainers, just like musicians. Its hardly equal pay in the music industry, its about the number of bums on seats. I dont expect everyone to be paid the same, not every entertainment product is of equal entertainment value. I expect Beyonce to be paid more than most men in the industry. This is not the same as going to work for a bank where there are equal job structures to ensure equal work is done driving the same output. Ultimately it can argued that women are paid better in Grand Slam tennis than men on an hourly rate seeing that men often play best of 5 sets & women best of 3. A womens final drives far less TV advertising revenue being a best of 3 sets than the men. So what exactly is equal pay based on?

"It seems to me that just in the ratio that our newspapers increase, our morals decay. The more newspapers the worse morals. Where we have one newspaper that does good, I think we have fifty that do harm. We ought to look upon the establishment of a newspaper of the average pattern in a virtuous village as a calamity." - Mark Twain

But nobody believes this. Everyone says it, but NO ONE believes people should be equal. Every day i am met with more & more examples of people who have privileges that they didnt earn, when given the chance to eschew them in the name of equality, they refuse. The ONLY people who believe in equality are those of lower status/station in life. Everyone else is happy with their privileged position and the inequality it entails.

I've always said this, no one ever addresses all the perks that women get just for being women. I saw a girl the other day without a train ticket get let through the barrier by the inspectors, no fine or anything, she didn't even make up an excuse, she literally just said 'I haven't got a ticket' 😂😂😂 I seriously doubt a man would have got away without the standard fine.

I have been watching RAFA since '04 time & again he has answered every question in diginified way and this ans is at very top of the list. This should be circulated through every social media, news channels, buisness schools, education platform etc. People are way too ignorant, sensationalist and agenda driven taking too many things for granted and ignoring simple economics of any small/large operation.

what facts did he lay on the table? The fact that society cares more about the way women look than what they can do? The fact that they are prepared to pay more money for their looks than their skills? What a rediculous take that it is a "burn". I like him and I appreciate his answer, but it is the same old trope and you believing to be anything different than that shows why. And the title of this video isent intended to cause controversy? Isn't the person that titles it rying to make a name for themselves? Stop being a hypocrit.
@Andrewthestagehand
@Andrewthestagehand Жыл бұрын
@@ggproductions7078to be fair, Nadal said that what people earn is relative to the money they generate. Men generate more revenue in sports, hence why they get paid way more than women in sports, just like how women generate more revenue in modeling, hence why they get paid way more to model. It's really common sense, and not sexist at all. Feminists just try to make it a male vs female issue, when in reality, it's a business issue with a reasonable answer.
@ggproductions7078
@ggproductions7078 Жыл бұрын
@@Andrewthestagehand again, yes and no, given that, for example, women were not allowed to play FA sanctioned football until 1971, so you could argue that they are following a similar path to the men's game. I am not unsympathetic to people continuing the idea of captilaisum (even though I am not one) but given the idea (still existing within some) ideas women couldn't and shouldn't play sports, its hardly surprising that they feel diminished. Whether I agree with him or not, and however inadvertently he may have done it, I mean, he may have been being very clever when he did it, but he remade the point that society still values women more on their looks than they do on their talent, and as long as that will be the case then of course there wont be as much money in some woman sports. And more than one thing can be true at any time, they may not generate as much money but they may have been denied the opportunity to do so. The question is I imagine, do you enjoy the sport and what is it about the sport that you do, the same could be said of Arts, it's a fairly simple question really.
