Since 2012 Nadal hasn’t beaten Djokovic on hard court or grass, not even won a set on hard court. Not so much “rivalry” there. On clay at least Djokovic won a few vs Nadal, like this match here he had the chance to win. He’s closer to Nadal’s level on clay than anyone else, but not really rivalries on clay either because Nadal won a lot more. So when we put together the overall h2h 30-29 it looks like they’re really rivalries every time they meet but it’s really not that way.

@@tehatte um, no. First of all nadal beat Novak twice in 2013 on hard courts and they are tied on grass. Yes nadal has a much better clay record and Novak has a much better hard court against nadal. But that’s what makes their rivalry so good is because they can beat each other on their best surfaces. Not sure what you are saying them not being rivals. To be honest your comment was stupid and not even worth writing. I wasn’t comparing them. Just appreciating their (yes and I dare say) rivalry! You had to make about who’s better than whom comparison. Make your comment on somebody else’s comment section who are debating the “better” of the two. None needed here.

@@joshswicegood3253 Sorry I messed up the years, since 2011 for grass and since end of 2013 for hard court. I didn’t compare who is better at all. I just pointed out the rivalry isn’t really like what we might think. Of the 30 wins from Djokovic more than 2/3 are on HC or grass, of the 29 wins from Nadal more than 2/3 are on clay. It’s more like each dominated on his own surface. I think Djokovic-Federer is a true rivalry when their h2h records are even out on all 3 surfaces, over the years, even there’s a bigger gap in age and peaking time was different. Just my observation and opinion when I saw your comment about rivalry. I have the right to reply. Didn’t mean to attack or anything.

As Novak fan, it was for me second hardest defeat that Novak suffered (final defeat in RG 2015). He had break advantage against Rafa in the fifth set and on 4:3 and 40:40 he unluckily touched net after he already won point. He was so close to win. But in other hand Rafa deserved also win as he grinded to the end. Nostalgic times.

@@actlike5095 I said it was unfortunate moment for him as he invested so much energy into smashing ball that he forgot to watch net. He already won this point as it was smash and Nadal was not able to catch the ball but two seconds later he leaned towards net and touched it. So there is NO assumptions what would happen if he did not touch the net because he already won this point. But he was enough negligent to forget to keep distance from the net. And of course this is violation of rules and Nadal deserved point.

@@lagunapravnik8111 I think Djokovic was slightly robbed tbh, however the net saga didn’t happen in the final set so I’m not saying Djokovic would have still won had he not touched the net, cos it’s still Nadal at RG, but he may have had more momentum going forward. Guess we’ll never know now I guess, but Nadal was also in the same position as Djokovic was here in the 5th set up a break at the 2012 AO Final but ended up losing, so it’s just a testament to Nadal being the king of RG and Djokovic being the king of the AO.

That certainly changed the momentum and it is hardly believable that Novak would lose that service gem having gem point. But, anyway, Nadal always waited his opportunity and never gave up so I can not lessen his victory.

@@dwolf5502 Non le 4eme set de Nadal Djokovic en 2021 a baissé de niveau alors que la demi-finale de 2013 terminé 9/7 a tenu en haleine jusqu'à la fin. Et que dire de cette volée gagnante à 4 jeux partout au cinquième set de Djokovic qui a touché le filet et donc a eu le point perdu et le jeu perdu. Le tournant du match. Le match de 2013 contre Djokovic à Roland Garros est le meilleur match de Nadal à Roland Garros.

This is one of Djokovic’s losses that as a fan of his it hurt. The SF vs Federer at 2011 RG I didn’t think he would lose to Federer because he had been really in great form, beating Nadal every time they played even in Madrid, Rome, and I was looking for a matchup in the final. I think he would have a better match vs Nadal than Federer did. Or the final vs Wawrinka at 2105 RG it was really sad to watch and saw he couldn’t do much vs a Stan the Man on a crazy good day. Or the final vs Medvedev at 2021 USO.

In fairness to Novak’s loss to Roger at the 2011 RG Semi Final, Roger played at his best 2006 level in that match, and even then it was a very close match! Novak didn’t play bad, not at all, Roger just played unbelievably that day. It’s a shame Roger couldn’t repeat it for long afterwards though. 2012 Wimbledon would be the final time that Roger would beat Novak in a slam.

@@justchillin6314 Right Djokovic didn’t play bad in that match but also to me on clay Federer matched up with Djokovic pretty well for some reason. Federer was nowhere close to Nadal on clay but Djokovic was closer to Nadal’s level on clay than anyone else. So if Djokovic won that game and got to the final he might have had a chance to beat Nadal because that year he had beaten Nadal a couple times on clay. Also, remember even Nadal after the USO 2013 has not even won a set vs Djokovic on hard court in more than 10 times they met. Nadal lost both times they met on grass after 2010. So that proved Djokovic got to a different level since 2011. Federer was still very good then but he couldn’t beat Djokovic partly because of the mentality.

Novaks off forehand winners really underrated. He was dictating the points just like fed who also used the off forehand against Nadal but to cover his weakness in his backhand against high balls Novak did well here .. people talk about him hitting the net as a turning point but there were games after that too. Nadal I feel didn't attack the corners as much as djokovic and rafa didn't hit many off forehands which would've been useful against djokovic
