Regarding the mid-point of the video, about how a place might be good for you only during certain times of your life: as a person with more years behind me than in front of me, I can completely agree with this sentiment.

I might also say that that places can go back and forth at different stages between being better or worse for an individual depending on the current set of circumstances in a particular place. There are tons of factors that can come onto play on so many levels

I feel like the big mistake I made moving abroad was not managing my expectations properly. There’s a very romanticized view of Europe from the US, and I went into the move with a pretty naive mindset about how things “should” fall into place within a certain timeline. Set me up for a lot of disappointment. Next time, I will go in with a lot more patience and a flexible mindset!

Rafael, this is such an excellent topic and so glad that you were able to share some of your many experiences and there are, no doubt, many more. Have you ever experienced a time when you feared being unable to leave a country OR, the opposite where you would be forced to leave? These last 3 years are crazy worldwide and I can see either scenario happening.

Any suggestions on specific programs/channels to learn the language?

I don't mean this as hate or in a rude way, but I think the lowness (idk how to explain tbh) of the voice audio (not the volume, more like the too much bass) makes it difficult to understand him. Maybe it's just me? But when I try to watch his videos I have to really focus super hard to understand him :(

Many Americans want to be out of the US, but they don't want to assimilate to the culture of the country which they moved. I don't see Americans learning Portuguese. They will not have the true Portuguese experience if they don't learn the language. When I move to a country, the first thing I do is look for a language course.

I personally might argue it’s not only Americans…. I agree though learning should be the first priority.
