I had an old recording of Horwowitz playing this and it got lost in a storm. This young man knows how to play this music. I am so glad to hear such a fine performance that I thought I could never hear again. Rafal--you are a gifted young man. Thank you.

AMAZING PIECE OF MUSIC! I love how Chopin uses chord progressions and really never "Changes" key. for instance this piece transitions from d minor to a minor to c minor to D FLAT MAJOR and back to d minor.....flawlessly. with out the sheet music you would never know!

Chopin’s transitions to d flat major always amaze me. in a lot of pieces he goes from c major to d flat major then to g major (dominant) and back to c

This is the first video that I watched Rafał perform in. I knew of his name and I was curious about how he played. I remember constantly replaying this video straight after the first time I listened to his majestic performance and he is now my favourite young pianist. I hope he becomes one of the greatest pianists of this century. :)
Awesomely superb with great passionate energy. Bravissimo!!!

This is a formidable prélude, the left hand is punishing and the right holds the all the passion. Chopin must've been holding in a lot at the time to conjure up something as demonic as this.

yes you have spotted the progression. And, in between a minor and c minor, there is the important passage in e minor which connects to c minor initially by just a G note. On the piano, Db sounds exactly as C#, this is how Chopin managed to move from Db major back to d minor by the C#. I know many of you have known this already hah :P

This guy is really galactic, I saw him last Friday in Heidelberg - either he has become even much better, or the recordings here in You Tube are quite poor. I am really not a piano fan usually, but Blechacz even plays Bach such, that I am completely fascinated (whereas usually I remember Bach as quite boring).
@Vook15 жыл бұрын
This has always been my favorite Chopin prelude, but I prefer to think of it as a romantic piece, like a serenade...not something angry and tumultuous. I don't know...this performance felt a bit rushed to me. Still, I'm really impressed by how clean this is. The thirds run was especially good.
