@@morso1 If not factually correct. Rafale has not got similar performance to EFT Rafale engines rated; Dry 50kN ,Wet 75kN. Top Speed Mach 1.8 EFT engines rated. Dry 60kN. Wet 90kN. Top Speed Mach 2+ In war setting the EJ2000 give 69kN dry. German Airforce give Mach 2.35 as the top speed of its EF. EFT can Supercruise at Mach 1.5 with weapons Rafale can Supercruise at Mach 1.4 Clean. Looking at basics like Ferry Range Rafale with 3 X tanks 3760k EFT with 3 X tanks. 3700k When conformal tanks are fitted it would be greater for Rafale but EF has experimental not production tanks so it is hard to compare as we don't know what extra volumes they offer. The height capabilities of EFT are 19,812m The Rafale height capabilities are 15,835m The possibility of launching a missile from high speed and height give Meteor a 30% increase in range. So this is not a very good comparison video for the facts that are known are airbrushed .... simply the Rafale does not have similar performance.

A lot of Indians do not know this - the French have NEVER delayed the delivery of, or asked more money for(after the initial contract has been signed) any aircraft they delivered to the IAF. Unlike the Russians who keep upping the price and making us pay more and more even after a contract has been signed, the French have ALWAYS followed through on time and within budget. Remember how the cost of the INS VIkramaditya ballooned from an initial $700M to $2.5B? Or how they asked for a fortune to integrate the Brahmos to the Su-30s? Or how the Mig-29Ks have to make a trip to the hangar after every sortie due to reliability issues? Russian equipment is proving troublesome. Previous Indian governments were admittedly foolish when Dassault time and again offered to shift the M2000's assembly line here, and offered us the first -5's and -9s that the line produced. I sincerely believe that India should agree to host a future Rafale production line(if offered) and join the Franco-German-Spanish 6th gen fighter project while keeping the AMCA alive.

Belgium have been refused a membership to the FCAS project and India would be given the same "you can look but not touch" answer should they ask. France never promised to build Rafale in India by setting up and certifying a production line, it was just Indian Paper Talk. As for France sticking to its cost price.......$255m dollars per unit gave a significant margin!

Great video and content. Nice to see France still has a few strong points in its industry and engineering. It's probably worth mentioning that the French (since De Gaulle) try to maintain they sovereignty and independence when it comes to strategic industries such as defense or energy. This is one of the big competing of the last few governments which have taken damaging steps against French capability to remain truly independent militarily. Nevertheless, the Rafale if an incredible machine and a thing of beauty, but to be fair Dassault have done it before. The various Mirage variants are incredible machines not totally obsolete today, and in my eye the most amazing looking fighter.

Some dumb politician in India tried to make the Rafale deal a controversy by invoking corruption but he utterly failed. He also involved Former president Francois Hollande and his girlfriend's names as well. Since he is dumb, he always pronounced the Fighter as Rafael jet, which the Indian media also pounced upon without any regard for cross-verification. It's pathetic but it is what it is. That's why most Indian people who just follow news don't know its original pronounciation. Actually, the Israeli company, Rafael should sue this Indian politician :)

One of the biggest plus points of purchasing rafale for IAF was the fact that Eurofighter was joint venture and bad ties with any of the participants (UK, our former coloniser for e.g.) nations in future could create lack of cooperation to maintain eurofighter fleet. While rafale also has some components from other nations but they are replaced by french seeing that India and other future customers would highly prefer it, Although Indian indigenous tejas mk2 will be more than sufficient for IAF's need in future but the French has always came to our rescue as they're the most autonomous nation that is a part of nato.

The good thing with French is that they during combat exercises dont put on their radars and try not to show the capabilities of their weapons even to their allies. India already paid all the initial costs for the rafale in the first batch, such as weapons, training costs, simulators, infrastructure modification, spare parts, India specific modifications, etc. That's why the initial 36 rafales cost 8.4 billion USD. India will have a total of 72 of them, means 36 more on IAF wishlist as of now. The ADA and DRDO/HAL are really pushing for Tejas MK2 around 2025 and the AMCA around 2024. People have doubt over it, watching the track record of hal/iaf's everchanging wish of Tejas's capabilities/flowing of funds. And Tedbf too is on the list which will gonna replace carrier-based mig29ks around 2029.
@dgap4724

@ no, I think there is no future of mmrca 2.0. that's in the dustbin now if you see the way things are taking place. There will be very less chance that IN will opt for Rafale, even if it does..the number will certainly not be 90. I think there won't be any rafale in Navy. Both navy and the govt is focusing on TEDBF . mig29ks will start phasing itself out from 2033 and TEDBF first flight is scheduled for 2029. So govt is going in that path. TEFBf is also given green light so that the air force version of it ORCA can be developed quickly on the TEFBf structure. So, if you ask me, then another 36 rafale for IAF will end the saga of buying foreign fighters IF EVERYTHINGS STAYS ON THE RIGHT PATH. And 42 sqrdn cant be achieved before 2035-40
@Millennium7HistoryTech

The Rafale needs at least a 70mts catapult to take off. The V. carrier doesn't have one. Maybe it could TO from the sky jump but I am pretty sure that the payload will be severely affected, up to the point of not being worth considering. Adding the catapult is a terribly complex job that heavily taxes the ship structure, either steam or EMALs. Unless India buys a new catobar, no Rafales for the Indian Navy.
@dgap4724

@@Millennium7HistoryTech Exactly. And chaps who are saying that Rafale for IN are not entirely wrong either. But things have changed in last 2-3 years and IN is seriously thinking to boost the Submarine fleet rather than diverting the fund to a new aircraft carrier, IN has 1 carrier right now i.e INs Vikramaditya and 1 will soon join the fleet in 2022 i.e INs Vikrant. but IN had a plan of constructing a CATOBAR type carrier. "INS Vishal, also known as Indigenous Aircraft Carrier 2 (IAC-2), is a planned aircraft carrier to be built by Cochin Shipyard Limited for the Indian Navy. It is intended to be the second aircraft carrier to be built in India after INS Vikrant (IAC-1). The proposed design of the second carrier class will be a new design, featuring significant changes from Vikrant, including an increase in displacement. An Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) CATOBAR system is also under consideration.[8] Its name Vishal means 'giant' in Sanskrit.[9]"-Wikipedia but as things are panning out, IN wants a large submarine fleet , than constructing a new carrier.

Greece has just fast tracked the acquisition of 18 Rafales. When facing an aggressive regime, there is diplomacy and there is Rafale diplomacy. I predict additional orders from India very soon. If your neighbours are cool and wealthy, buy Gripen. If not, and if America doesn't really care about you (like Greece or India), Rafale is a good option. 1:10 and there's also that there was pressure to build a new fighter for the navy which the 2000 wasn't. If there was only the air force i wonder if they would have went for the 2000-9. Regarding active cancellation it is physically doable and it seems believable that it would work against older radars, but against an Aesa that can use multiple frequencies and quickly switch frequency, i have a hard time believing they would be able to effectively cancel the signal.
@stupidburp
@stupidburp 4 жыл бұрын
Theoretically active cancellation could still work but would require a powerful computer and highly capable sensors. With the advances in computing power and sensors over the last decades, I find it plausible that such methods could still be effective, at least to some degree. There would also be a variety of other electronic warfare methods available using the same hardware and some combination of these should be able to make it much more difficult to isolate the Rafale as a target. Enough to give the Rafale an advantage in many scenarios anyways.
@Tetemovies4

@@stupidburp I see how lightning kick reaction times or knowledge of the frequencies program the enemy will use - assuming it's not randomized - would help but how could computer power solve that problem?
@stupidburp
@stupidburp 4 жыл бұрын
@@Tetemovies4 It helps to react to multiple simultaneous transmissions on different frequencies and determine the matching opposite waveforms for each without delay. With a single or just a few sources this can be done with simple hardware - like noise cancellation headphones. But with a thousand different channels hopping frequencies in different patterns it becomes a much more demanding task. There are other secret ways that can use computing power to enhance electronic warfare and I am only vaguely aware of how a few of them might work but I do know that processing power is required.

Rafale remains a better strike package as it can deliver more weapons than EFT. EFT remains a better interceptor as it has height and speed advantages. That is a basic distinction as both are capable of switching to their next best roles. But Rafale is Nuclear capable ( but only with French type) and a carrier version is available and suitable for medium carrier decks due to its size. Neither compare with F22 or F35 though due to 5th generation modernization.

@kathrynck
@kathrynck 4 жыл бұрын
The Mica's "over the shoulder" firing capability has been on the AIM-120D for a while, thought it was only recently made public knowledge. This is further enhanced on the F-35 via it's 365 degree sensor suite. Also another US munition I'll leave unnamed. Mica is not the only missile with this capability. Somewhat related, a couple Russian missiles can fire at targets from a very large off-axis angle, but not "over the shoulder". These drastically change the nature of visual range air to air combat.

@kathrynck
@kathrynck 4 жыл бұрын
@@aamerjamal HOBS "high off bore sight" targeting. Russian short range heat seeking missiles allow for targeting significantly off to either side. They may have similar capability with other missiles. The AIM-9X has similar ability. I'm not sure who fielded this first, since both sides kept it hush-hush for a while. This drastically changes dog-fighting mechanics. When the US build the F-22, which fires missiles from an internal bay, the issue arose of of how do you get a 'lock' when the missile is inside an internal compartment. So we had to change how it's done. Missiles had to be remade to have a virtual 'sense of space & momentum' and follow an inertial guidance until they can get a target lock. The F-22 uses it's radar to target anything in a wide cone in front of the aircraft with both short and longer ranged missiles (AIM-9X and AIM-120D). The F-35 takes this a step further, and uses a 360 degree sensor suite to allow it to target other aircraft in literally any direction, regardless of where the nose of the plane is pointed, out to a range of about 60-120 miles (less in bad weather), or about 10-20 miles with the AIM-9X. This is one of the reasons why I get kinda tired of all the comparisons between the F-22 and F-35... people don't really 'get' what the F-35 can do. Realistically, the F-22 is at a disadvantage vs an F-35, despite being more maneuverable and having a smaller RCS. Any F-22 within 80+ miles of an F-35 would be in continuous, uninterrupted, targeting threat. Plus the F-35's omni-directional IRST suite, and reduced heat emissions, allows it to counter stealth aircraft far better than the F-22. The F-35 is a monstrously capable platform. I find it shocking that we sell them to anybody, even close allies. I'm not saying the F-22 is a bad plane. Far from it. But the F-35 has much better 'toys' installed. An advantage of being developed some dozen years later. The F-22 is the better airframe, but without the new toys, it's the actually underdog between the two. An F-22 "B" could rectify that, and put it back on top. But even then the price differential favors the F-35. HOBS is making maneuverability a very secondary consideration, and re-writing the rules of air to air combat. Basically, being extremely maneuverable is now like having a great pistol sidearm, on a battlefield where everybody's wearing lvl 4 body armor. It's not the asset it once was.

@kathrynck
@kathrynck 2 жыл бұрын
@@NATObait Yeah. Although depending on a 3rd party's targeting info, it's often not entirely reliable or ideal. If the source info is from far away, it may not be the best targeting data. If your data comes from a wingman or on-board sensors, it's much better than getting it from a distant track shared via network. A far off awacs or something telling you where a target is may have a +/- of say 5 miles distance, which in close quarters could mean the difference of the missile needing to turn left or right as it exits the plane. Very robust onboard sensor suites, and strong compute power (for fast & accurate correlation of tracks) really makes these missiles shine. And it kinda deconstructs the traditional dogfight, when there's a bunch of targeting going on irrespective of nose orientation. It's kind of the next evolution of "look down/shoot down".

Reason is, we planned 126 aircraft, with the new uniform command policy we will have all 90 available when required. Rafale is very costly so we cannot invest more even if we want and we should spend the rest on Indian projects. Having one plane will save ISE costs and SCM costs as well.
