1964 में आई फिल्म दोस्ती के गानों ने देश-दुनिया में तहलका मचा दिया था. फिल्म के गानों को लिखा था मजरुह सुलतानपुरी ने और संगीत से सजाया था लक्ष्मीकांत प्यारेलाल ने.
इस फिल्म में लक्ष्मीकांत प्यारेलाल ने पहली बार स्वतंत्र रूप से संगीत दिया था. उनके संगीतकार बनने की ये पहली सीढ़ी थी.
इस फिल्म का सबसे सुपरहिट गाना था "चाहूंगा में तुझे सांझ सवेरे". जब लक्ष्मीकांत प्यारेलाल ने इस गाने का संगीत तैयार किया तो निर्माता, निर्देशक समेत तमाम बड़े संगीतकारों ने उसे खारिज़ कर दिया.
लेकिन जब मोहम्मद रफी साहब ने उस धुन को सुना तो वो उछल पड़े और कहा कि यही तो वो संगीत है जो इस फिल्म को सुपरहिट बनाएगा.
रफी साहब ने इस धुन को फिल्म में रखने के लिए निर्माता-निर्देशक को बड़ी मुश्किल से मनाया. वो तब तैयार हुए जबकि रफी साहब ने ये कहा कि अगर ये धुन फ्लॉप होती है या इस धुन के कारण फिल्म फ्लॉप होती है तो उसकी जिम्मेदारी उनपर होगी.
रफी साहब के इस आश्वासन के बाद इस धुन को फिल्म में रखा गया. और सब जानते हैं कि उस रिजेक्टेड धुन ने देश-दुनिया में तहलका मचा दिया था.
