Thank you for making this presentation. It explains and demonstrates very well how this kind of tool works. I've just acquired a vintage one myself. Can't wait to start using up scrap fabric from old clothes, etc.

One of these has just been passed down to me. Mine is called a Jackson rapid rug machine and I'm so pleased to see one in action. Can't wait to have a go.

I was so excited to see this - I have had this funny looking wooden thing in my possession since my grandmother passed away...I never had a clue to what it was nor could I find anyone else who could identify it. I saw your rug and was attracted by the pretty colors and the distinctive pattern and wanted to see more. I am so glad I did, now I see that one of my fore-bearers did these kinds of rugs too! I am a long-time crafter but only recently began to work on rugs. Apparently - it's in the genes! Who would'a thought!! Thanks again for having this onlline...I am blown away! Now I wonder how old this wooden tool is and who it belonged to????

Mary Mathis I have this too from somewhere and never knew what it was for until now !! It came in an old box. I think I might have got it at a antique shop. I’m so happy to finally know what it’s for. I’ve been fascinated in rug hooking and tools and just now realized I have one!!
@marymathis92994 жыл бұрын
Ah, thats great! Maybe you can share how it comes along? 👍😁💥

Lol me too...I was sewing baby booties last night and was searching a bag of odds and ends (from my grandmas old things) for some elastic and came upon the mysterious wooden object. Maybe I'll try it out! Haha.

Same here, it is however quite simple if you have som metalworking experience

This is a very interesting vintage tool. I think the reason it's not really used anymore is because they invented the punch needle and it's a bit easier to see where you are punching and can do it single handed. Most punch needles I've seen on the market are for lighter yarn weights but I'm sure you can find one big enough to accommodate fabric strips.

CraftTrapletTV In the DVD, is mounting into the Slate frame mentioned. I now have the shuttle and yarn. I bought a burlap pattern that is 40" x 64". I made a slate frame. I am about to tie it into the frame. This thing is HUGE. I don't think I even have a wall I can lean it against. There has got to be another way. I can not afford the rug hooking frame with the metal teeth I have seen.
@InspiredtoMakeTV10 жыл бұрын
The DVD has more information about the frame shown, but remember this craft is all about recycling and improvisation, not spending lots of money on equipment. Perhaps you could try using a smaller frame and working in sections, the way embroiderers do.
