Use a simple loom (like a rigid heddle loom) and weave using some cotton strips. Use your quilting scraps and weave a beautiful table runner or place mat.
I used a 7.5 dpi heddle in this video.

You warped with "cotton crochet thread"? It appears so fine to make a rag rug on your 7.5 dpi heddle. I am preparing to make a rug using denim strips. I have a 24" Kromski Harp with a 8 dpi heddle. The cotton crochet thread looks like something I would use to do fine crochet or embroidery vs. weaving a rug made with fabric. I would appreciate your insight on working with cotton crochet thread. I have Aunt Lydia's Classic 10 cotton crochet thread. My denim strips are 1.25" wide.

I have not woven with denim before but I do think you’ll want something else ...maybe a cotton warp thread which looks sturdier. Happy weaving!

How thick were your fabric strips and how many yards (of strips) did you need to make the 24" length?
@bethshibleyquilts
@bethshibleyquilts 4 жыл бұрын
The strips are about 1-1 1/2” . I try to use what I have leftover from sewing projects, so they are not all the same width...or length. I’m sorry I have not figured out how much yardage it takes.

I’m wondering if you could start with a “jelly roll” from the quilt shop if you don’t have scraps lying around…Would the strips be too wide?
@bethshibleyquilts

I think it’s a personal preference. Weaving will be a bit bulkier with wider strips

Sorry .. One more question. When you start wefting your fabric, does the fabric have to lay flat or can it be twisted... I saw the first two were flat but then you speeded the video and I could not see ...

how do you know how much rag yarn you need to make a particular length / width product??
@bethshibleyquilts
@bethshibleyquilts 3 жыл бұрын
You could measure the width of project and figure out how close each woven strip is after weaving...but I don't like to add math to my projects! LOL. I use what I have and if I run out...I call it a happy accident and enjoy the surprise results. 😉

My neighbor who is a quilter just gave me a huge bag of scraps right after I watched your video and asked if she had any! How wide would you say your scraps are and do you have to sew them together or can you place them as weft by hand?
@bethshibleyquilts
@bethshibleyquilts 3 жыл бұрын
They should be joined before weaving . I usually stitch the ends together on my machine. I join quite a few... trying to get enough to fill one shuttle. My strips are about 1” wide. Have fun!!
