Darbari Kanada or Darbari is a late night Raaga was originated in Carnatic music and brought into North Indian music by Miyan Tansen in the royal court or darbar of Akbar, and hence given the name "Darbari".
Raga Darbari is reputed to cure insomnia and induce sleep.

I am not a trained singer nor a musicologist but I measure the quality of rendition based on how soon and how profusely tears of joy start flowing from my eyes, involuntarily. The first time I heard Balu in Raleigh, North Carolina, tears started flowing profusely within less than 30 seconds after he started the rendition of "Bhagyada Lakshmi Baramma" - I was in an indescribable state of ecstasy. Till that moment, I had no idea who Balu was and I was convinced that God put me there in that concert hall that day to experience that state of Heavenly bliss! The only other singer who had that effect on me during a live concert was the Ghazal King Jagjit Singh. I had the honor of driving Shri Jagjit Singh to his concert venue when he performed here in Raleigh. And, I had the same honor when I drove Balu to his concert venue, not once but twice. Therefore, I am hoping and praying that Balu will earn "two times" the fame and respect that Shri Jagjit Singh earned during his musical career. The biggest honor my family had was when Balu sang Bhagyada Lakshmi during my daughter's wedding, as she walked to the Mandap.
