This is the 11th in the current series of presentations of Hindustani ragas by Asit De in the Khayal form. Raga Nayaki Kanada is a traditional raga, belonging to the group of ragas called Kanada. Here the raga is exposed using two traditional vandishes in vilambit Tilwada and in Madhya/drut Teental.
Perhaps a word or two on the raga exposition used here is necessary. The Komal Gandhar is never used as in Darbari Kanada, that is, never with the touch of Shuddh Rishav, as is done by some. In this exposition, Komal Gandhar is always taken from Shuddh Madhyam. Another popular phrase of g M P M R S is completely avoided (g = Komal Gandhar, M = Shuddh Madhyam, P = Pancham, R = Shuddh Rishav, S = Shadaj). This is according to the taalim received.
Soulful accompaniments have been provided by Ashis Paul on tabla, and by Kamalaksha Mukhopadhyay on harmonium.
