Brilliant accompaniment by Nagai Sriram. It takes a mature accompanist to understand when not to play. On the time scale, from around 3:58 mark to 4:50 he just bows the panchamam. Then he follows subsequent sangathis in the lower octave. Not that he cant play along with TNS sir, but he just chooses to embellish rather than show his virtuosity. Its not everyday that you get a talented accompanist like this guy. Wish he scales greater peaks!

He went down just because of headweight, ego and non appreciating attitude for others. Not a single time he is saying "Sabash" to accompaniments.

I love T N Seshagopalan. I have been to many of his concerts. However, he can labor over a set of swaras in his alapana for far too long and it can be taxing on the listener. In this piece, there is so much dwelling on the madhyamam and panchamam half way through the alapana, i got bored. That is not a reflection on Sri. Seshagopalan's mastery over the raga which he obviously does have. Concerts should not be just a venue to show scholarship (evidently TNS has this in abundance), but should also be efforts to involve the audience in the melody and the rhythm of the composition. No need to prolong the alapana for thirty five minutes. A crisper 15 minute alapana would be adequate even for a ragam-thanam-pallavi format. The artist has to take the audience along.

Shows your inadequacy in appreciation. It is with such masters that the audience knowledge gets enhanced and enriched. This was a pallavi in honour of Madurai Mani Iyer and Palghat Mani Iyer. The sarvalahu swaras and laya patterns are absolute neccessity to the theme Nd spirit of the Pallavi. Where would artists show their mastery? At home? No sir, definitely at concerts. A concert is meant for lay audience, connosieur, students, fellow artis and learners. You take what you need and enjoy. Thats the spirit.
