The Word was my favourite show as a teenager in the 90s. They booked THE best groups and the fact it was live and you didn’t know what kind of chaos was going to happen made it all the better 😅

Stage invasion leads to zack being smothered before he's finished singing the song and 1 of the greatest live performances is cut short, whilst the music still plays. Mark Lamar sees it happen and simplly chuckles, Chris Eubank peruses all the madness that happened every weekend on the oddest live TV show ever. They never had any security- Go figure! Should have been called "Murphy's Law", because if shit could go down, it inevitably would this tv show. Didn't last long!

"The Word" was crass, puerile and vulgar. It also had the best live music of the 90s. Why isn't there a DVD of the finest music from the programme? Blur, Oasis, RATM, L7, Honky - it couldn't put a foot wrong. Great stuff.

They chose the invites for juxtaposition and to be as controversial as possible. this show might as well have beeen called Murphy's Law, because if there was a possibility that shit would go wrong, it inevitably did on this show. Did you realise that the singers voice stopped mid sentence in this song because he got smothered by a stage invasion. I saw this live, But literally just now remembered iit therefore googled it. The rules were changed on British TV literally becausse of this show, in terms of what companies would allow live, without close security personnel. Hilarious then, hilarious now!
