Rated R was quite a dark era for Rihanna and I ate it up with a spoon The drama between her and Chris was at risk of potentially overshadowing the music but if anything the darkness was channelled healthy. All of that would be her mission to not be a victim and she gradually transistions into the light with her Loud era which is optimistic, colourful and fun

It was released as a international radio single then she pushed it as a single internationally but it failed on the charts in the USA but was huge in the rest of the world, so weird because this was one of her best singles tbh.

This is her best album I don't care what anyone says but I love the rawness of this album, I know alot of people go on and on about anti and unapologetic being some of her better work but this album to me eclipses those albums because it actually feels like a full body of work. Alot of people say anti is the first Rihanna album where she put together a cohesive album, but from top to bottom this album really flows well (okay beside rude boy but she really just needed a fun pop dancehall song tbh and it definitely is one of her strongest dancehall singles she's ever released). This album was a career defining moment for her and as a fan was something I really needed from her at that time, the last song is one of the best songs she's ever made tbh, I imagine her singing it while playing a piano overlooking a misty cliff against a ocean backdrop with the sun rising, thats how much I love this album I can see a video clip for EVERY single song it's that good.

I was never certain which Rihanna album was my favorite since Loud contains Only Girl and Man Down. Two of my favorite songs from any artist, genre, language, etc. But Rated R is always on rotation and I can listen to the whole album without skips, numerous times. It’s that album for me. 💿 🎶 💋
