Rage Racer Demo - Beating the Race

I had this game when it came out but I also had this demo disc. I could never get in the top 3 during the first lap. What feels like 20 years later, I suddenly remember the demo and wonder if anybody else has done it. Fucking love that it is even possible!

I used to turn around and drive in reverse for ages and to my absolute amazement back then as a kid I realised it had a day/night cycle.

After all that effort, all you get is to skip the Game Over speech xD

Yeah, you won't even get a replay or anything; the game literally exits once screens whites out, which is bit underwhelming compared to Game Over. *shrug*

I expected some magic with emulator to beat it, but you managed to beat it even with AT no uphill glitch and no quick start and 1 bounce off a wall! Always wanted to see what would happen if you beat the race. And as could be expected, it happened exactly nothing :D

@@jared56 wuth manual, you constantly shifting up and down and the car even gains speed a little. Even Age cars. Watch fatalita on youtube

@@RetroAdzz you hold gas and brake when "GO" sign is up and then shift up to have quick start. Needs some training

The US version of this demo which was on Disc 2 of the first issue of PlayStation Underground, as well as on the first Jampack demo disc was actually a lot more easier than on the PAL version.

You'd probably be able to get first if you could change to MT and do the turbo start

Unfortunately there's no way to use Manual transmission, as you can't tweak car settings in demo. I kinda forgot turbo start trick existed as well, but I doubt that will give advantage to reach 1st place.

Nice! I'm trying to get this Demo to work but for some reason my controller won't work with it (it's a DS4). Any other game will work fine, it's just this demo that for some reason doesn't get any controller input. Tried RetroArch and Duckstation and both run the Demo but I get the exact same problem with the controller. Did you get this issue?

Nevermind lol.. After tweaking the emulator seems like this specific Demo was out before the first dual analogue controller was released. I just changed on the controller type options from "analogue controller" to "digital controler" and it worked 😅

@@FooXz15 Yeah, I was about to comment that it is most likely that issue: I had similar issue in Duckstation with some demos as well i.e. Dynasty Warriors.

Gnade isn't a race car it's a mid class street car due to speed (a mid class car's average speed is about 220 km/h)

Good Job. I did this too but without drifting because i always screwed it up. Try to complete rapid racer. Its on the same demo. Problem is you dont have much time so you need to boost most of the time. I cant do it its just too hard for me.

Thanks! Actually, I have beaten Rapid Racer demo as well; the first lap is simply the hardest part because other racers really like to steal those boost tokens. And while I could record it, I have to mute music so I won't get content id'd. And I forgot to point this out in description, but Mirror Track code (Hold L1+R1+Start while the race is loading) works on demo.
