Lyrics:
Can't waste a day when the night brings a hearse
So make a move and plead the fifth 'cause ya can't plead the first
Can't waste a day when the night brings a hearse
So now I'm rollin' down Rodeo with a shotgun
These people ain't seen a brown-skinned man
Since their grandparents bought one
Yes, I'm rollin' down Rodeo with a shotgun
These people ain't seen a brown-skinned man
Since their grandparents bought one
So now I'm rollin' down Rodeo with a shotgun

"Can't WASTE the DAY when the NIGHT BRINGS a HEARSE." I remember the very first time Zach stabbed that line through my impressionable eardrums 26 years ago. And still, one thousand times later, it never goes stale, it's never outdated, never outta style, it cuts through razor sharp and demands you not waste a second. It still gives me the same sense of urgency in 2022, as I got at 12 years old, in 1996.

The song addresses social inequality between the rich and poor of America, and the simmering class warfare that existed in the band’s home city of Los Angeles following the 1992 Los Angeles Riots. “Down Rodeo” was written just three years after six days of riots were sparked by police violence against minorities in the city.

I was born in 2002, but my music taste is mostly 90's rock, metal, and especially grunge. RATM is definitely on the list, though they're technically nu metal.

@tomchamberlain4329

@@mattulino2817 Technically....nu-metal was actually the first Korn and Deftones, Coal Chamber albums. That style was fresh as fuck, but disappeared by the late 90s and was replaced by the rap/rock hybrid style that was audibly different. But then that ended up with the nu-metal tag in the media even tho is was a different style. Either way Rage were definitely not part of that style. For the record I loved the first Korn and Coal Chamber albums, and also the first Limp Bizkit album, I think they all had a uniqueness, clear funk style and really detailed soundscapes, tons of interesting melodies and massive riffs and beats. But all different. I loved the guitar and bass tuning and the drumming. All those bands fell into making pretty boring music after that imo.

you know, I've always wondered this but never really delved into it. Do you think the "Just a quiet peaceful dance" line was a reference to the relation between slaves and Capoeira? If it was, then that is even more fire!

06/12/2023---The guitar is so very brilliant here, is very descriptive and has, owe so much to say! It certainly backs up the very well- hidden occult meanings of Zack's lyrics🖐😛 There is something to be said about timing, and it makes mee wonder about the energies from the sun vs the moon, the difference thereof, and which is best for specific activities. To me, the late afternoon son is very draining, full of negative vibrations on the mind and body. I believe the guitar starting at 4:47 describes the sun setting over the city of Los Angeles---
