One of my favorite scenes from this game is Ena telling Zellard that what he thought was Oltura's 'voice' was only his own desires because it really reminds me of that scene in Life of Pi where Pi's father tells him that when people look into the eyes of animals, they think they're seeing the animal's soul, but in reality they are only seeing their own soul reflected back at them. It's also interesting that Zellard claimed he could hear the voice of monsters like Red, thinking it makes them equal, only to discover it was just a delusion on his part

Not exactly a complete delusion as much as a misinterpretation. Zellard and Red both heard Oltura say "the beginning," but where Red understood it as being a simple proclamation of its own new life, Zellard read a whole belief system into it fueled by his own nihilism. He can hear the voices of monsters (its how he knows Oltura needs to eat Rathalos), but his own desires cloud the meaning. It makes some sense too given how its emphasized monsters don't have a language, so any description of their thoughts and desires has to be translated into human terms, and with translating comes the possibility of errors.

I saw it as more bittersweet, as it was our character having to lose the most loyal and cherished Monstie of their grandfather's, one of the last living connections he/she had to Red (aside from Ena & Alwin). But at the same time, Guardian Ratha's pain was finally ended and he finally gets to be with Red again....and considering how some animals act upon losing their human owners, Guardian Ratha probably welcomed it. After all, IRL there are multiple stories of dogs (and even cats!) refusing to leave the side of their owner's coffin/grave, or of said pet going missing only to later be found standing vigil over the grave of their owner. To quote something I've seen said with regards to normal pets: "To us, they are a part of our lives, but to them, we are their whole life." I mean, just imagine how Ratha would have reacted if, after the fight with Nergigante, *we* actually *had* died when Oltura emerged from that pit. Ratha would have been completely devastated.

Oltura's design is really cool, and I love the whole metamorphosis thing it did, but I still would've really liked to see it in it's hydra form. The mural in Nua Te shows it's some sort of massive body with a bunch of tentacles. It would've been even more unique, but the Oltura we got was still really cool.

I have to admit, I did find Ena's persuasion to Zellard about rethinking Oltura's intentions pretty hilarious purely for how simplistic she makes it out to be. Zellard: "Do you not comprehend?! It heralds the rebirth of the world, wiping the slate clean, seeking ultimate power to unmake the wretched and revitalize the worthy! Oltura is truly exalted!" Ena: "No you moron it's just an animal going about its instinct to survive, geez" Just feels a bit like a jab towards the plentiful theories insinuating higher intellectual intention among these creatures and forgetting some basic principles. Is Nergigante guiding Zorah towards Xeno in an effort to destroy the sapphire beast?! No it's just hungry. Is Velkhana summoning an army of Legianas to freeze the Everwyrm?! No it's just agitated. Has Alatreon come to put a stop to Safi'jiiva's all-consuming greed?! No it's just running from a nastier monster. Simplistic.

I was extremely disappointed and confused that they introduced a monster that lives under the earth and hunts with massive tentacles, only for the final boss to be a typical elder dragon kind of monster. But at the same time, Oltura is gorgeous and still a really cool fight

Think of it as a metamorphosis. The inspiration for this Dragon comes from the Moth and a Fire fly. It starts as that insane larva form... creates that insane light to attract it's prey... in this instance Rathalos... and when it's eaten enough... it metamorphosis's into it's adult form which is what you see.

@@ES-dp6tw i mean, for Zorah, all Nergi wants is to feast on him, and he cant exactly do that with all the hunters there so he could just be leaving because the hunters were just too annoying or he doesnt want to die because he cant eat if he's dead. For the Teostra and Lunastra, they were in a really small area, and, if we use his "role" as a 'Bringer of Balance', they aren't exactly big threats like zorah, xeno, and shara so there's really no need for him to fight them. For shara, he could just not be hungry, like he couldve just killed Shara because he didn't like the asshole so he killed the asshole and left. Like im pretty sure he could take on most of the hunters there, we can defeat Nergi because we're supposed to be the "Legendary Hunter" and stuff and also he is most likely scaled down for gameplay. Basically, i think Nergi doesnt leave if the odds arent in his favor and only when he can, for Zorah and Shara he was continuously going after them even after we fought them, he most likely fears no one because lore wise he's pretty powerful and he's also the 'Bringer of Balance' or whatever. So i believe that when there's a big threat towards the ecosystem he would stop at nothing until that threat is gone even if he's outmatched and we can see that in each of his prey, Zorah is big so it's hard to kill, Shara was in a big rock shield that would be really hard to break while Shara can just keep attacking and Oltura is Oltura. In conclusion, Nergi dont give a shit about both his health and his odds, like a true madlad

The worms are a multi-headed larval form. They're like caterpillars, ravenously eating to speed up their metamorphosis. Oltura's moth-dragon form is the adult. After consuming Guardian Ratha and assimilating his power, Oltura could complete its transformation.

i think the storys team realized at some point they'd need to reveal something other than tentacles but instead of sticking with something the size of dalamadur and making you fight small sections of it as its main body is the arena im kind of upset that they chose to do this but i do realize that this was probably for the best on an evolutionary stand point that size is unsustainable so it metamorphosing into something that small is more effective for energy consumption. however i feel like the fight is now going to be a bit underwhelming

You know what really makes me feel sad about Guardian Ratha? He isn't even using his eyes. The way they cant focus suggests he's just blind and using every other sense to even get around. And then he goes and sacrifices himself to get us through Oltura's storm that's already essentially slaughtered every Rathalos in the continental region

Now that I think about it again, I can kind of understand to transformation of Oltura if you think of the tentacles as similar to caterpillars who are gathering enough food and energy to metamorphize into the true form. I also like to think that Oltura is deliberately attracting rathalos to the pits in order to eliminate the one monster that could threaten it and that is why ratha is losing control so often as the pits were likely made to specifically attract him.

You’d have to be paying really close attention to the hands on purpose to even be looking for that difference. However, even a casual fan who might not know Wyverian anatomy could spot the difference of their feet, since at a glance it looks like they’re standing on their toes. It’s just quicker to notice the feet than it is the hands.

i honestly didn't see the reveal of him being evil. i think the mix of he felt like a background character in the beginning and having that moment of lose when Red died made me believe he wasn't some evil person trying to "fix" the world by creating a new one, even if it meant killing EVERYTHING! that and i forgot his eye color for a moment.

This was my favorite part of the story. I hated but also loved the fight with Razewing Ratha because I didn't want to hurt him but it was a big part of the story. Also, that Guardian Ratha sacrifice made me sad.

@@wtf_is_this_handle_shit you say it's dumb but power of friendship is the entire premise of the game. also there's nothing suggesting that ratha would have died after awakening, he is alive and well even after zellard forced him to fight like that and after he annihilated oltura in the pit. what they did was far worse if you ask me: zellard chains ratha and he goes 'i was good but now im bad' for no reason at all. it doesnt make much sense to me after all the 'our bonds are stronger than everything' stuff they showed. they made it feel like the bonds didnt really amount to anything since a rando could just steal our monstie and control it out the blue. they elevate the power of razewing ratha to absurd levels showing how strong he is and then give us a normal one. they could have made him strong enough to not have to swap him out for a dreadqueen rathian lategame at least 🙄
