Then we saw him form an ice blade for the first time. "Is that a sword?!?!" Cut to an immediate faint after saying that. We were all dying from laughter.

Shows how difficulty is definately unique to everyone, because this list was all over the place to me. Khezu on every weapon ive used was a easy win. And bazel, while not top tier, definately should be on the upper end. Too many times have i watched people die. Not an issue for me as i use charge blade against him ( so just block), but with randoms he tallies those carts up.

Same, a lot of these placements confused me. Honestly it sounds a lot like a list you would make by ranking the difficulty of your first run of each monster. For example I can imagine having an easier time hunting scorned after 100 ranks than normal magna in mid master rank.

True lol cuz khezu is definitely on the lower end cuz he’s easy to dodge and he takes ages for each move to build up and even after the fact gives u even more time , but monsters like almudron and Basel and to extent zinogre base I’d put higher and Tigre’s and deablos lower only because there to repetitive cuz it’s mostly charges , so at that point just put the weapon away , run a lil , then when there done just hit them lol

Chameleos is like a stamina match tbh. He has the highest hp of the OG trio, quickly wears through your hp with chip damage from DoT poison as well as small moves that don't flinch you, is deceptively quick with certain attacks (e.g feint into poison breath), his mist combined with poison patches and invisibility allows him to have great area control plus he can steal your bird buffs. I guess it's true about Chameleos lore, he wishes to drive would be aggressors into retreat via sheer aggravation and annoyance.

He’s one of the monsters I have to face solo. I had two online parties triple cart to him back to back lol. He’s Tanky, moves around a lot, and his venom/ poison covers so much ground.

I've killed 90 of him in Rise/Sunbreak, he's more annoying than anything else. I find him more of a waiting game rather than an elder dragon, especially since i can tell what he will do in the given moment and what he will do next. The singular monster I can say for sure that I have full proficiency in (at least for high rank) is Allmother Narwa. I have over 1000 slain with both her and Wind Serpent Ibushi (no, I have never played a ranged weapon- they just don't click with me). The few moves that they added in master rank ruined the flow of the monster for me, and she's no longer worth the grind. Teostra is the hardest out of the OG trio because of the fact that he can have multi-hit attacks, and you can get stuck in long animations with no stagger- meaning you take every chunk of damage and end up carting. He's a bit easier when you have absolute evasion or adept style in GU, but he is not an enjoyable fight. Kushala in old gen sucks, he's a pushover in new gen.

As for normal Monsters the hardest for me are Crimson Glow Valstrax and Scorned Magnamalo. Scorned Magnamalo more than any other Monster depends on what kind of day I have. On a bad day he is absolutely overwhelming. On a good day he becomes a cute kitten. For easiest I also gotta say Rathian. Its the one Monster I usually beat without getting hit.

Scorn for me unless I'm using charge blade air dash spam, or just SNS. Than it becomes a 6 min bully session of scorn getting dunked on the whole time. Any other weapon through, fml lucky if I hit 10mins.

I found Valstrax very easy as Elemental DB. Its moves seem to knock you out of the air much less than most others...MR Nawa was about 10 times tougher despite being at MR30.

I’m around HR60 something and I just did the crimson calamity event quest and dear god that was fricking tough. Everyone told me this game is too easy until I fought the emergency apexes and crimson calamity Valstrax like dear god this game is not easy, at least the event quests can be quite difficult. I haven’t fought the Valstrax in the HR100 quest but I hear it’s a bit easier, but that event quest is no joke. He has hella tracking on his attacks, so I was superman diving all over the place and burning through max potions because he hits like a truck

One of my favorite things in the game of Monster Hunter is how different each hunter's experiences are. Some monsters I find pretty difficult are in the lower tiers when it comes to Cotton's opinion, while there are many I find easy who are in the higher tiers! I just find that super cool about MH, and games like it

I completely agree on the s+ tier. Even after nearly fully upgrading my lunagaron dual blades, I still had a hard time against a high rank apex zinogre.

One of the regular monsters I still find really difficult is Astalos - think it's because I ranged, but the slight variation in timing and dodge direction necessary for his different moves really catches me off guard. And with ranged defense he can really, really hurt

Firstly thank you, this list really shows just how many monsters are in rise and its more than most would think. As for the list itself I would like a mirrored list with the monster's afflicted versions as some become much greater threats when afflicted, especially at higher levels. As for the base list I like to switch zinogre and khezu as base zinogre is very deadly when first hunting it due to its combo moves be very punishing when people wirefall as a reflex. I do cart to khezu but thats almost exclusively afflicted khezu who is just plain nasty. I main charge blade and there are some monsters that can really punish you for blocking too much thanks to chip damage.

I find if you"re having problems with chameleos, you can use an antidobra before fighting him and he will honestly look at you like the saddest lizard ever the whole time you fight him. Without his poison, hes nothing.

I think the discrepancy of how easy you find Mizutsune vs other people as you mentioned comes from you maining Hunting Horn (IIRC). I'm a HH main myself and the way you position yourself against Mizutsune just makes the fight really free cuz a lot of their attacks don't hit the spots you naturally stand in to clobber the head. Other weapons have just slightly different spacing that causes them to get pushed around differently which then makes everything exponentially worse because you have to reposition, losing out on damage, you're more likely to be hit by the next attack etc. At least that's my experience from fighting Mizutsune with different weapons and watching my friend hunt them.

For me what made mizutsune a little tricky at first was because I was using longsword, so a lot of monsters are wyverns and have attack patterns that are easy to read and are intuitive. Whereas monsters like Mizu and Almudron which are leviathans have attack patterns that I wasn’t used to seeing. So when trying to counter Mizu’s moves I got hit a fair amount and it took a bit of practice to get a read on them, it was the same thing with Amuldron but even more so. However if I played a weapon that relied more on positioning and spacing then i’m sure both of them would’ve been easier as opposed to trying to play aggressively and counter everything which takes a lot of monster knowledge to accomplish.

Regular Rathalos probably accounts for a quarter of all the carts I've had in this game. He was the first monster to make me triple cart in base Rise! His new flamethrower attack that deals ungodly amounts of damage and his insane speed just make him one of the hardest monsters in the game for me.

As a bow main, my tier list would look quite a bit different. Ranged users deal with major damage from anyone, so any big, fast attacks that can get you are a pain to deal with. Also, some monsters have horrible shot type hit zone values so while the fight isn't particularly difficult, it can be very tedious. Basarios, Rakna Kadaki, etc. As I was going through the story, I struggled most with Lunagaron and Valstrax. Once Lunagaron goes werewolf mode and does his howl slash, if you don't counter or dodge it, it was almost guaranteed a 1 shot. Valstrax is just super annoying with crappy weak points, super speed, fast attacks, big attacks. However, I learned that if you hit his forearms, it's the best way to approach the fight.

Every time I look at monster difficulty lists & polls I'm like "Wait, I don't get it, why do people consider this monster tough to beat but not this other one?" ...only for me to then remember that I main LBGs & Lance which are both weapon types that define difficulty very, *very* differently and it's just so interesting to think about game difficulty from that perspective. Hell, one of the reasons I even got into Lance all the way back in Tri was because Barioth was such a *huge* pain in the ass for me then that I just couldn't get past - until I switched weapons, found my new main, and the entire fight turned into a non-issue, like Barioth instantly transformed from "Most difficult fight so far!" to "Absolutely pathetic punching bag". And it's still very similar in Rise. Valstrax might be the most toughest fight for the majority of players, but I always found it reasonable (not *easy* but also not overbearingly tough). Meanwhile, Astalos gives me much more trouble than most Elder Dragons in this game but most other folks probably don't see it as anything more than a mid-game fight. Also, I will NEVER feel bad for Rathian. I think her being a complete non-issue is largely the point; she exists to ease people into the game & as a training dummy for trying out new builds & weapons. No mercy. ^^

A very interesting tier list (placement of Izuchi cracked me up🤣) but one I can respect, ur always very good at bringing across y u think the wat u do. Obviously I disagree with some stuff (Mizutsune and Shogun are B-tier at least for me) but the ones of note are: that I find base bazel harder than seething, seething can obviously kill u more easily but I also find his attacks are better telegraphed and the scales he leaves tend to be more easily identifiable; I agree that base magnamalo is harder than scorned, I find he gives u less downtime to get hits in and since he's not always enraged u can't exploit his weakness as much; fInally I'd put super narwa in B-tier: she use to be the hardest fight for me and was a nightmare to kill for the first time (must have taken me like 7 tries) but with Master Rank armour and a full knowledge of her moveset she's so much easier to kill, I was actually a little dissappointed that her Master Rank changes were pretty minimal.

I honestly think that not only does weapon style come into consideration but it's how you play that weapon that means something as well. For me a lot of these monster are in different positions. Some much harder. Others not hard enough for me and my playing style. My buddy might think this list is perfect. However everyone is different

I think the most difficult part about most of these monsters is that most of them have a small weak spot, but spend too much of their time moving from one spot to another. I could take on a Barioth and a Nargacuga no problem, but they keep pouncing all over the place, even when I’m in the air for them to knock me down, corner me into a wall, then cart me.

And the way that would work is that someone that is actually god at the game and plays at least 90% of the weapons, could tell 90% more accurately which one is harder. Among the higher tier monsters, notably dedicated to being tougher threats, I'd say Shagaru was my toughest fight. While it does have the major knockdown from its Frenzy mode like other toughnuts, it's not quite as exploitable as Valstrax's heavy breathing or Malzeno's glowing red zones, and it can trip you up with frenzy mines while its rampaging or charging up. On the other hand, Gaismagorm is a huge target whose major get-out-from-under-me attacks are easy to read and there's plenty of room in the arena to skedaddle if it tries to litter it with bombs. Its supermove literally entails you to shoot its soft spots and then casually walk off while it takes around fifteen seconds to do anything dangerous.

Magnamalo drops 3 tiers if you have high dragon resistance. It just about negates all of his attacks. What's crazy is that I find the master rank version to be easier than the high rank version. If I fight one after the other the high rank one is harder. I have no idea how that works, but it's weird.

One great thing is that Sunbreak isn't finished yet and with other MH games including base rise the hardest monsters have always come in title updates. On a different note I really hope we don't get afflicted elder dragons because even though it would be a good challenge I really think that elder dragons should be immune to attacks from qurios since a lot of them can kill or incapacitate you just by being in the area and those that can't usually have ultra hard scales. Afflicted Teostra just doesn't make sense

I think it's explained at that the qurio evolving. They at first were a humanoid only plague, but soon became a monster one. They've already taken two elder dragon, Mal, and the final boss. I hope afflicted Elders get more special moves than just a supernova buff. Like Teo could gain tracking explosions, and damaging roars. Kush can gain perma dragon wind when afflicted. Camy gains an even deadlier poison, and even faster movement speed.

I use switch axe, so it may vary, but I think valstrax and magnamalo are easy, you just need to get a part break and your good to go. or use endemic like such as para or sleep. for got to mention I think espinas and his counterpart are a huge pushover. same thing I said for magnamalo and valstrax.

Cotton keeps saying "easy to dodge." While yes some monsters are easy to dodge, easy to see attacks coming, the problem is they never stop attacking and you have to attack them at some point. I really wish more people would upload vids of solo hunts, so I can see what makes monsters like Nargacuga so easy to them, I can't "get good" if nothing I know of works and can't see what other are doing. Yeah to me Narga is the hardest monster in the game by a long shot exactly because he never stops spamming full body hitbox attacks, jump-jump-fly-spin-jump-jump-fly-spin-jump-jump-fly-spin-two second opening as he roars and repeat jump-jump-fly-spin, I can't counter because the next attack will hit you and while yes I can avoid the attacks he has no openings that last longer than two seconds until he's finally exhausted 7-8 minutes into the hunt. This is why it takes me 15 minutes to hunt him, waiting for those times he's exhausted which are 7-8 minutes apart.

I think a lot of the challenge comes from playstyle and experience with the momster cause I personally have alot harder of a time with things like mizutsune and bazel cause i rarely ever hunt them but with things like diablos and lunagaron i have no problems at all because I understand the patterns but love your opinions cotton thanks for all the quality content the whole rage gaming team puts out

I actually took on the hail to the fierce quest earlier this morning. It was surprisingly pretty easy to do. Not only did I not cart, I had a relatively easy time dealing with the monsters that were thrown at me. The biggest worry I had was time and while it did take me 40 minutes to do, I at least managed to finish it.

I was talking with my friends about how chameleos is my favourite monster ever (started in world), and they said: "hah, such an easy monster i see why" and I shit you not, they triple carted to a chameleos 4 times in a row, right after saying that sentence. (subject came up cause they were hunting chameleos in MR) That guy has the perfect moveset against hunters, but somehow, something in my brain just clicks when i fight him, and the deadly dance begins.

Wow, this tierlist is not what I expected. Mainly Khezu. I don't know if its just me, but I have seriously never struggled with this fight except for playing glaive against it in master rank. (The lightning ball wave it does after roaring anti-airs glaive pretty hard) Though personally, I would put Gore a tier or 2 higher, higher than Shagaru. The way it constantly runs you over with charging attacks while having a moveset that does good damage and has way lower recovery than you'd expect has lead to it consistly being one of the few fights I still struggle with in sunbreak. Like seriously, I'd have an easier time fighting Bazel and Rajang together than a single Gore.

Personally, I find Daimyo to be a C tier difficulty monster. His speed makes him a real pain to keep up with. On top of that, he can be aggressive with his attacks. However, he doesn't hit that hard and he can be pretty dodgeable after a bit.

Here I am trying to get one of the A5*s unlocked before I get to level 81, then I get Daimyo and Aknosom more than any other in the 50s and 60s. My most recent set of unlocked anomaly investigations really pissed me off, since one of them was a kulu ya ku. I would rather hunt an afflicted crimson glow valstrax than an afflicted version of that dodo dinosaur.

Some commentary as I go since I have everything at Level 100 now: I have acquired a new disdain for Lagombi and Volvidon. Simply because they just don't stand still at that level and are simply annoying. Please let me hit you more than twice. Great Izuchi "higher" than Bazel? Yeah, I can agree to that. When I started with Afflicted, he was definitely a Challenge due to the little ones knocking me over when I went to attack at times. I completely underestimated Zinogre the first time around because I was still confident due to my experience with him in 4U. Not that Iceborne made him harder in his base version. So he was my first triple cart of my playtrough, but I completely agree otherwise. After hunting HR Allmother a few times for an extra Orb (I am making every Rare 10 IG), I just pity Ibushi and his most dangerous move in MR are the rocks if you don't get on a platform quickly. I hated LR Almudron enough to avoid his fight in HR. Until MR came around and he was a sad joke. Haven't fought his Afflicted in a while, but yeah. He really isn't that difficult. Astalos caught me completely off-guard during the story and I struggled for a fair amount of time. Until my Afflicted Marathon and he became boring. Funny how that goes. I need to fight Goss more. Have him in my Somnacanth Investigation and I struggle with keeping uptime on him. Which leads to me being greedier than I need to be and getting carted once a Quest due to that. Garangolm is extremely underwhelming when not Afflicted. Absolutely E Tier. When he is Afflicted though, he easily becomes one of my favorite fights. Definitely one that I would fight just once in a while for fun. Shogun... Uptime, man. Not that my last encounters with its regular form were difficult, but I definitely don't like it. Diablos... At this point, it's my nemesis just by virtue of me getting the same Investigation with it and Seething so many times in online. Not particularly difficult if you have Evade Extender 2, even with the homing head smash, but Level 100 Afflicted likes to run. A lot. Magmadron is in a weird spot. I definitely complain a lot about its tail punch, but not much beyond that. Rathalos was my first "wall" because I farmed 14 of him for One (1) Mantle. The first 5 were a minor nightmare until I got used to his new moveset and their hitboxes. Not he's one of my favorite fights and casual "I wanna have fun for a few" hunt. Lunagaron is still my favorite Lord. Simply because the fight flows incredibly well for me and I only really get caught off-guard online when his target might be closer to me than I thought. Haven't fought many Apex Monsters beyond Arzuros, Rathian and Rathalos. They are fine (D), "I dodged in the wrong direction again >.

ummm, tf is some of this misinformation going on here. Narg in base Rise actually did have his traditional G Rank “double tail slam.” Sunbreak just gave him a new version of it where he repositions a bit, before doing the second slam. also, you can fight Silver Los in most of the locales, excluding the Forlorn Arena (I.E. Shrine, Lava Caverns, and The Citadel).

My wall right now is Crimson Glow Valstrax. Most of the days I can only play after work at night and work lately has been quite draining both mentally and physically. I can do multi-player just fine and farm A5 monsters with enough ease with the ocassional hiccup here and there but Valstrax it just feels incredibly overwhelming. I have tried all the weapons I excel with and the farthest I have come is to break his head. Work has been that tiring and I'm really looking forward to my next vacation so I can have a breather and have enough energy for killing him because, if I'm honest, with all the multi-player I have done so far, Scorned Magnamall might already be unlocked for me, it's just that Sunbreak Valstrax is beyond me atm.

Well isn’t every monster considered easy when you fight him 20 times? At least a lot easier. I used to get destroyed by (MR) Magnamalo, but after farming him a lot for his weapons and some deco’s he’s A LOT easier. Same goes for Scorned. At first he will catch you off guard with some moves, but once you learn them you basically never get hit again.

Just the two healing snails and the Bubbles one of my Palico puts down are usually enough to ge me through the fight.

Espinas was the first monster that I failed the quest to multiple times(this is the first game I played that had it) the second was rajang, but it didn’t feel as punishing as espinas. Magnamalo gets really ez the more y fight him. Velkana was the hardest monster for me, it was just really unpredictable and it took the full time limit for some reason. It just had a lot of health compared to other monsters, idk y.

I mainly use longsword and gunlance I'm only rank 3 and new to monster hunter, I already disagree with some of these thinking they're easier which is incredibly interesting to me. Having parries against magnamalo and having an invincible block with shells against a diabolos definitely make them way easier Mizutsune definitely free af tho

I LOVE Mizutsune with all my heart but I can admit that he is Extremely telegraphed. IF you get hit you can get oneshot by some of the moves, yes, but you have to actually Get Hit first.

I feel like Anjanath could be lower on the scale too? Hes essentially Also a walking sweet spot especiallh when enraged and he STAYS enraged if you dont shred his nose, since it turns his nose, back, tail and wings into weaknesses. And his moves generally arent going to oneshot you.

I will say in the case of Silver Rathalos you do fight in a quest outside of the arena and it does make him a lil harder but that may also be cause the monster he teamed up with

Tbh and tbf, if youre used to base Allmother, MR Allmother isn't that hard. Tip for the dragonators: Basegame: let the dragonators cross about 1-2x, then go in as soon as it crosses For MR: same as above, but this time, go to the left right afterwards, theres an extra dragonator coming from the left side as well.

I would totally swap Mizutsune and Royal Ludroth, tho not by swapping their placements, i'd keep Ludroth where it is, and move Mizutsune about them to D personally. As a Glaive main, i have been air sniped by Miz' an embarrasing amount of times, and Afflicted Miz is a nightmare for me

Somnacanth is probably the easiest aside from the 3 raptors. Equip sleep nullfication and it becomes a huge punching bag that you can hit while it's doing its sleep attack animation; utterly trivial to hunt.

I never had quite an issue of potions on my hunts on base rise. But now, i almost exhaust my first-aid potion+ and my own potion+. Though i still have my gourmet and Max potions, this lead my to go with a healing palico. Since i'm not good with dodging or countering.
