Hopkin's hannibal was violent ànd spoke a bit loudly , perfect for the 90's horror. Mads hannibal was spoke softly and handled things smoothly perfect for this gen horror. Both are Iconic

From what I've seen, both Hopkins' and Mikkelsen's portrayals of the educated, cultured, intelligent and cannibalistic killer that we love, are both really well executed. I can't really compare the two because they are portraying him in two very different stages of his life in which he would behave differently: Mikkelsen's portrayal: the younger version; a Satan-like gentleman, who hides his savage/cannibalistic side while manipulating others, in a subtle manner, to kill for his amusement. Hopkins' portrayal: the older version; a killer who has been caught, while still a savage gentleman he has no need to restrain his savage/cannibalistic side until he follows a plan to escape. Just my observation, that may or may not interest you. And if you read this far, thank you for your time to read my thoughts. (Really trying not to be rude here)

Good analysis. I see the character of Hannibal Lecter as having two sides: •Dr. Lecter = The cultured calm, psychoanalyst manipulative side who loves music, fine cuisine, and speaks with eloquence and is always polite. •Hannibal the Cannibal = The savage sociopathic killer side who enjoys murder and cannibalism and is prone to biting out chunks of flesh without raising a beat. Prefers to kill the rude when possible. Both sides are a part of Hannibal and contribute to his character. With Mikkelsen we see more of Dr. Lecter (as he is free and unknown like you said) and with Hopkins we saw more of Hannibal the Cannibal (because he was caught and didn't have to hide as you pointed out). Both actors could still show both sides but it's just the way they approach the character that makes them both great and unique. Just my thoughts :)

I think we all have different thoughts when it comes to Hannibal. When it comes to Hopkins' Hannibal as it has been pointed out he is now free after 8 years of being captured and the life is his to do what he feels. Mikkelsen's Hannibal has not been caught yet. So he starts out in hiding then slowly shows everyone who he really is. Now if we add Young Hannibal from Hannibal Rising it gives us and even bigger picture of who this guy is and why he is the way he is.

+Kipersof totally agree.... they cannot be compared 'cause they portrayed Hannibal in different stages of his life. But what I can say in favour of Hopkins, is that he shown a sublime character in few minutes in all three films (16 in The silence!!!) while Mads played a very deep and charismatic Hannibal, but I mean... in 3 season.... not the same!! :) however... the character of Hannibal himself has been very fortunate 'cause he's always been played by excellent actors (Brian Cox too) :) This is just my thought , obviously :)

The ending of the 3rd doesn't give the opportunity for a 4th and Fuller won't try force it, endangering the whole series with a shitty continuation. The reason that are only 3 seasons is that that NBC announced the cancellation at the beging of 3rd season so Fuller gave an end to the series. An impressive, magistral, poetic ending.

@@conororourke42I think it can be very changing depending on the type of character you can appreciate more, I personally think there's no point of comparison because both men portray an extremely different take on Hannibal Lecter's character, but both execute it to perfection on how they are portrayed. Mads and Hopkin created masterpieces with the Hannibal each were respectively characterizing. Although I personally do prefer Mads interpretation, it's refreshing.

I'm french and … profiler. By the facts the show is not really realistic but I'm a big fan anyway. I find very original and interesting to focus on the relations between Will and Hannibal, just like he thinks Will could become a kind of an apprentice of the dark side. To me it's more a battle of minds . Hannibal against Will but also Will against himself. And the both actors are just perfect. However, i don't want to scare you but, believe me Hannibal is a very kind killer compared to real ones !!! And Don't follow his feet, médicine have discovered that cannibalism leads to a neurological disease called 'kuru'. It's like Creutzfeldt Jakob. Even though I love sir Anthony Hopkins hannibal, i prefer mads mikkelsen version of hannibal as he seem more like the character when I think of him. Mads version in my opinion seem more dangerous, charming, and has the mysterious pull to him when he places hannibal. This show also does hannibal justice at how dangerous he can be and intelligent. I really wished the show didnt end when it did as I really wanted to see clarice in the show and how they would have done that relationship with hannibal. Even though the movies are and always will be classics in my mind except hannibal rising which they could of done better. The t.v show is far better and I know it's been about a year since news of a possible 4th season but I really hope it does come back.

While the younger and still free MM-Hannibal was a sane, rational predator with a sadistic hunger for personal amusement, the older AH-Hannibal, being locked away for years, slowly started loosing his mind in his cell. Being a brilliant genius it would eventually drive him into insanity when everything that he enjoyed in life, anything that stimulated his special senses is withdrawn from him. The Show is a perfect prequal to "Silence of the lambs" for me, no contradictions. Both actors portrayed Hannibal perfectly! I wish they would have had the opportunity to go back in time even further and give some insite into what actually happened in Hannibals childhood. I like to imagine that Lecter was actually born a unique form of genius psychopath, whereas the murder and cannibalism aspects were triggered by some gruesome act of early child abuse, imprinting him on human meat.

I love this show, however I had to have a cold hard look at myself when my daughter and I were watching it and then she casually remarked “Dad, Hannibal so reminds me of you”! Let’s just say I was left a little speechless.

I imagine Gaspard Ulliel as a young early 20's Hannibal. Followed by Mickelson's late thirties early forties Hannibal. And finally Sir Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal the aged version we now and love. His probably in his late 50's-60's. Full of experience not as strong as the years in his forties however as they say " A old devil is worth far more for his experience than for just being a devil" what he lacks in strengh he makes up in tremendous experience and faster movements with his mind and better decision making. Ironically enough they are all Sagitarious. Coincedence? I don't think so. Ted bundy was yes a sagitarious...fate chose these men.

I think it's cool how they show how "Will would do the killings".Some of his scenes are the most gruesome.But I like Madds,Hopkins and Ulliel.We have only seen 2 seasons of Hannibal,I would think we are in for an awesome job.I can't wait!!!!One of the things I like about Hannibal is how beautiful it is shot.Too me the writing is much better than the movies.
