Most? Actually most of the Indians don't even pay Income taxes and that's also a big problem because of which mostly only salaried people pay taxes and carry the burden. As agricultural income is tax free even if you earn in crores through agriculture and more than 50% population is dependent on it. Better way is government broadens tax base so that majority starts paying income tax even if it's just 4-5 percent. But that will take whole lot of efforts so it's easy to squeeze money from people who earn and invest white money. Also, ask is for LTCG and not for STCG and STT. People who invest in multiple assets for long time (5 yrs or more) do it for a goal. Be it child's education/marriage, house purchase, retirement. Taxing it by without indexation is just like punishing them for being good citizen. And lastly looking the way FM charging ahead, LTCG will be 20% in near future.

I am from Manipur, and i know how the inflation is hitting us. As compared to other states, manipur is beyond the limits of inflation (if there is a limit). The central government taxes, the state govt. taxes and other illegal taxes which both the government has forgotten and shut their eyes on them. Despite being a BJP supporter, I endorse Raghav Chadha for (1) Excellent parliamentary behaviour (2) Very true reflection of nations mood on the budget including the issues with indexation and LTCG. Our finance minister has no need to try and control asset classes in a free market economy. Why should the government decide if investors should do short term or long term?

Supporter kya hota hai? Tumhara baap PM bana hai ya banega? Tum tax de rahe ho toh tumhare liye bas eak cheez jaruri hai service! Kya tumhe service mil raha hai? Tum kisi hotel mein Rs 5000 dete ho toh tum kya expect karte ho? Magar tum government ko apne income ka 30% de rahe ho ( Woh bhi min - GST , Cess jod kar ) toh tumhe kya expect karna chahiye? Soch bodlo desh badle ga.

Reduction of GST is more important as it affect everyone, increase ltcg tax to 30% after a gain more than 10 lakhs per year to fund it, then it will take out money from rich people
