Uí Imair is pronounced, EE EEvur. The m in Imair is actually lenited which wasn't indicated in Old Irish script on voiced consonants, meaning that it was a nasalised v rather than an m sound.

Mate, your string of Viking and British isles-related videos are beginning to deserve a playlist of their own. Something that allows for easier chronological viewing. As usual, great narrative and storytelling.

I'm going to arrange them in chronological order once I've uploaded a few more :)

Hi, I don't mean to put more strain on you but I just finished watching all your videos and am thoroughly disappointed that they are a finite resource. Your music is never out of place and actually very good samples from composers and artists I need to get to know. Your narration is a product of your knowledge and talent and the subject matter is concerned about topics I've never heard of despite reading much on history.

I've always been fascinated by The concept of a Sea bound kingdom/Empire. Carthage, the Polynesian's, Dal Riata* (I know It's spelt wrong lol), the North Sea Empire of King Cannut of Denmark, Venice, etc. Heck even the Roman Empire could be classified as such since the Mediterranean literally sat at the heart of it.

This content is some of the very very best of British history I have ever seen. Absolutely love it🙂👍. I love this period of history and you bring it all together in a way that is factual but in a way a bit like the very Norse Saga's themselves 🙂👍👍👍.

Thanks for another great video! ... "I said nothing, but felt a chill pass through me. Ragnall Ivarson was a name I knew, a name we all knew, a name that had spread fear up and down the Irish Sea. He was a Norseman who called himself the Sea King, for his lands were scattered wherever the wild waves beat on rock or sand. He ruled where the seals swam and the puffins flew, where the winds howled and where ships were wrecked, where the cold bit like a knife and the souls of drowned men moaned in the darkness. His men had captured the wild islands off Scotland, had bitten land from the coast of Ireland, and enslaved folk in Wales and on the Isle of Mann. It was a kingdom without borders, for whenever an enemy became too strong, Ragnall’s men took to their long ships and sailed to another wild coast." - Warriors of the Storm, Cornwell

Thank you for your excellent videos and posts History Time. I wonder what your source is for the expulsion of the vikings from Dublin in 902, and the destination of Wales for one of the groups? I'm trying to gather what info I can on the vikings in Wales and this seems very important. This is also suggested by the background map. Any goss about norse influence in Pembrokeshire?

Annals of Ulster mostly and the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle. Asser's biography of Alfred is a good source on Welsh goings on at this time also. And the odd bit of archaeology pops up now and again too

Dude, in all seriousness though, all these new subscribers are truly deserved! I found this channel about two months ago doing research on Harald Hardrada, and subscribed after seeing how interesting all your other videos were. It is obvious that mountains of work are put into these videos and I am always looking forward to History Time popping up on my phone. Looking forward to all the new videos this year! Thank you.

Love the vids man but Ireland isn’t part of Great Britain as said at the end and as Britain’s name is derived from the Latin which then came back into use via the Normans (Brittany/Greater Brittany) saying British isles shouldn’t really be used when referring to Britain and Ireland.

I plan to do a realistic map of the British Isles (and Ireland) for Age of Empires 2. I love Vikings and Celts, and plan to learn Old Norse as well as Irish. Too bad the Irish prefer English.

Great video, but please, please stop pronouncing “Ui” as “oo-ee “. It’s pronounced “ee” as in the word, see. Oh and I know your map is just supposed to be a generalization of the area the Vikings controlled, but they never controlled all of Leinster like that. They surely raided into those areas, but they never controlled it. Their area of control was limited to coastal regions like Dublin, Wexford, Waterford, Limerick, etc.
