fun facts: Wheein and Hwasa are actually best friends since high school and went to Seoul together with the goal to debut in the same group. After getting rejected multiple times by companies they stuck together always. They are truly soulmates. Solar got rejected by 40 companies before she became a trainee in RBW. Her parents didn't support her dreams but she never gave up. Moonbyul wanted to debut as a vocalist but the group needed a rapper so she learned rapping from scratch and is now one of the best 3rd gen rappers in kpop with 51 songs that she has written on her name (making her the highest credited female idol of the 3rd gen). These girls have been told they were not gonna make it because of their visuals all these years but they kept going. Never giving up. They really are a little family. Now they are setting new beauty standards in Korea and are inspiring people all around the world as one of the biggest girl groups out there. Thank you for reacting to our girls. Thank you for commenting on mamamoo's bond and fight to push through because its really what supported and drove them to endure the pain and struggles faced throughout their journey. They were looked down upon, ignored a lot and even had people make petitions to drop hwasa from the group (because they thought she wasn't pretty enough) but I'm glad it only made them stronger and closer together.

i love that this video uses uses "performance" to introduce each of the members where a lot of groups would showcase only dance skills. not that their dance isn't amazing (see wheein's dance parts!) or that other groups shouldn't focus on dance, but the stage presence and control of the crowd mamamoo has is so important to creating their amazing stages. i also love that this person chose such great clips to showcase each of their different vocal styles, like the powerful belting for solar and the deep smooth vocals of moonbyul and that incredible range for wheein and the smooth jazzy style for hwasa!

8:00 Moonbyul was trained as a vocalist. It's just that the other three are such talented vocalists that she handles the rap lines instead. And her rap flow fits so well with the vocal harmonies in mamamoo. Also, you can hear her sing lower register harmonization in some songs, that's where her vocals really shine

I love how excited you get by Mamamoo. You combine smart commentary with a celebration of their exceptional talent. The main thing left out of Sondery's intro is that Mamamoo is involved creatively in all aspects of their career. The write some of the lyrics and music, Moonbyul always writes her own rap verses, they usually do their own choreography, and they collaborate with their team on styling and MV production. Answers to some of your questions: With very few exceptions, kpop girl groups typically last 5-7 years max. At 5 yo Mamamoo is actually one of the senior girl groups who are currently active - I can only think of 4 gg's older than MMM: AOA, Apink, Ladies Code, EXID. Several older 2nd generation gg's haven't officially disbanded but they've been inactive as a group for several years [SNSD, f(x)]. Moonbyul has been singing more since the song Paint Me in Jan '18 and she has released several solo songs too. Paint Me is Mamamoo's vocal masterpiece in a recording studio (as you know, they're best when live). You raved about Hwasa's vocal technique and flexibility - you're going to love her vocal gymnastics in Paint Me. Wheein was singing an acoustic version of her solo song Easy. The original version is a mid-tempo r&b song with rapper Sik-K as a featured guest artist and the MV includes a bunch of sight gags and visual puns about relationships so it's a bunch of fun to watch. There's also a live studio version of Easy. Mamamoo has done so many gorgeous covers over the years that it's impossible to pick out just a few but I think a good sampler package would be Solar's 20 minute solo stage during this year's 4 Seasons F/W concerts: Celine Dion's Titanic song My Heart Will Go On, Solar's solo song Hello, Peggy Lee's Fever, The Ting Ting's Shut Up and Let Me Go, and finally BTS's Fire. It's worth noting that Solar wrote the lyrics and composed the music for Hello. She wasn't afraid to perform an iconic (if cheesy) ballad and then follow it up with one of her own and imo Hello not only holds up well in direct comparison, it's a better song. And yet Hello is just a b-side track from Mamamoo's Blue;S album. Her performance is so hot she almost literally burns down the stage and it is literally a high-wire theatrical performance with a stunning finale. Solar also performed Naomi Scott's Speechless (from Aladdin) at this year's KCON in Los Angeles, reaching out to an English speaking audience with a song in English that captures the determination of all the young kpop artists to have their voices heard around the world. Speechless also reflects her personal story and you can tell the emotion she pours into the song is heartfelt. Put it all together and imo she was doing her bit to endorse and express BTS's Speak Yourself message at KCON. The clip where Solar was terrified while wearing a helmet & headset was from a prank where they tried to convince 3 of the members that there was a ghost in RBW's office and studios. Solar was so freaked out she didn't finish filming. Go watch the Paint Me MV. Besides the genius level vocals it's also the theme song for their four album 4 Season 4 Color project, which Sondery didn't mention despite the fact that it's the most epic, ambitious, complex project ever attempted by a kpop girl group and has to be considered an historic accomplishment and the pinnacle of Mamamoo's career to date.

Sorry to ad this comment so late. Near the end of that video you saw the girls final note on a live stage. Those clips were from a show called Immortal Songs 2 where the younger generation of singers perform a classic song from a legend of the industry and the 500 person audience gets to vote for who they think gave the best performance. This honors the legend and allows the new generation to promote themselves. It is an honor to ever be invited onto the show. If the performer does well, the might be invited back. Very few female idol groups get to appear on this show more than 2 or 3 times and none have won the trophy awarded to the performer with the highest score that episode. That is except for Mamamoo! They have appeared on the show 14 times and have won 3 trophies!! During their first episodes, they were called the super rookies for 2015. I love to see your reaction to moonbyul's vocal. Well, she went to the agency to be a singer but then the agency said that they have so many singers and asked her to rap instead. If you compare moonbyul's voice to the other 3 of course it'd be different, but yeah she can sing.
