So close! As a Stopfordian, it’s a shame I missed you on your trip around my great Town. It would have been an honour to meet you and give you a guided tour of the area and maybe fill you in on what’s happening around Town, and maybe show you a few hidden gems. Stockport is in somewhat of a transition, with lots of improvements being made, which sadly makes the place look pretty sorry for itself at the mo’ due to lockdown. However change is coming, and not just change for the sake of it, but cultural and historically significant change is happening. Rediscovering some of the old features and opening up areas such as the Underbanks. A few points on your video, the building you referred to as an ‘ex Primark building’ is not so, as Primark is still there in the larger building further along that road (nothing to be proud of but all the same 😇) The Plaza is also an absolute gem, and is the only fully restored Art Deco Super Cinema and is truly incredible inside, having been Meticulously restored to its original state. To such detail that it was recently used in programmes such as Peaky Blinders. Pretty much all the large stores are now indeed shut, with most recently Sainsbury’s closing its doors. That follows Debenhams, BHS, Marks & Spencer’s plus many others. You’re right about the river being hidden although this happened decades ago when they built the Merseyway shopping centre. Maybe One day we could see the return of some of the river considering the lack of need of shops above? Anyway it was great to see you in my hometown, and if you you ever return please give me a shout as it would be a pleasure to give you a tour. 💪🏻 J.

Scandalous how we are letting all these buildings go to rack and ruin whilst we keep building on green belt land. Then when they let them fall into disrepair its easier to pull them down and build some monstrosity with will last 50 years tops.

Charlie, just point to all the CCTV cameras when people berate you for filming them, there is no difference in what you are doing to what they are other than you are providing social commentary. In regard to that altercation you had with the tall guy who got on the tram, a nice retort would be something like “I’m making a documentary on cool looking people people” they all have egos which is why they confront you. If they respond aggressively just add “ and now you can’t be in it” Intellect and wit always trumps aggression. Enjoy your work

It's so strange to see someone else's view on Stockport and all the things they spot. Having been around that place for many years - but not actually noticed how abandoned everything is. I didn't even realise the pyramid was abandoned too. It scares me when I think - all those abandoned buildings etc, they once weren't.. and they've seemingly got into that state without anyone noticing. If that can happen, how much worse will it get before we notice?

To live with this knowledge, ie, being red-pilled for this relatively long time and seeing the tyranny grow almost daily whilst you can do nothing about it is extremely depressing and wearing. I think that most people at the base of the pyramid are ok, ie, the 99%. Once you start moving up, people become absolute and utter shit. The plaza was rescued a few years ago and now operates as a theatre/ cinema, often showing classic films. It was used as a bingo hall through the 70's before restoration. I don't believe it's government backed as it had the friends of the plaza organisation. It appeared last year in Peaky Blinders, it was the building used in the last episode (spoiler avoidance). Despite not living in Stockport for years,it's still my hometown, and I cringe at the way it looks now.

Most Doc Martens products are made in China, sadly. I emailed the firm for a pal of mine over a decade ago to clarify which styles were still made in England. Empty Primark store formerly the Co-op when it was a great department store empire. I remember visiting Stockport in the 1960's and seeing the river Mersey slice through the middle - beneath where the Merseyway shopping centre is. The Mark Addy was a legendary go to pub back in the day along with Tommy Ducks just off Oxford Street. The streets of Manchester and Stockport have all been ruined by unbridled corporate greed after a quick killing with no long term benefit to the people. I remember seeing a rag and bone man charge his horse and cart across the A6 when the lights changed. It felt like a scene from Ben Hur! The pyramid was built just in time for the early 90's property collapse. Its always been a white elephant as it doesn't work internally on diminishing floor plates. For a lot of its life I think its just been an advertising board for the Co-op.

Another jewel in the Northern Crown Stockport, or at least it was, decades ago. Shocking the decision making through the years from the local council regarding the town centre. They missed a trick with the centre when they built that precinct, the layout was all wrong. And slowly the whole place was under resourced, shops closed, pubs closed, shoppers went elsewhere. Some fantastic weekends shopping in Stockport in the 80s, and nights out. Some legendary pubs now long gone.

I just need to correct something, the "ex primark " building is wrong, it used to be a Farmfoods but i believe Primark (which is situated on the other side of that building ) own the land and they increased the rent causing Farmfoods to close down. i may be wrong on that but they are the details i was told. Great video and as a proud Stopfordian it is incredibly sad to see how far Stockport has declined over the past decade. Used to be a great and very popular Town with great shops, pubs and people. Even though this is only 3 years old, its looks even worse now.

I remember them building that monstrosity “the Pyramid” in the late 90’s… thought it was exciting at the time. Now I can’t believe that it was agreed to. What architect builds that?

The big derelict building isn't Primark it used to be part of chestergate which was a bit like Debenhams... Primark is round the other side of the building.... the closed shop on the bottom floor was farmfoods for a while x also winter's pub was a dive it's been shut down and being turned into more apartments .... also we go to the plaza panto every year it's a beautiful town but falling apart now

Wigan Council recently decided how to solve all the empty shops, empty shopping mall and decline....(created by weaponized Chinese manufacturing and Conservative austerity designed to create poverty and crime) .......... they decided to ignore all local and regional developers and spend 100m of taxpayers money to hire The Beijing Construction Engineering Group.......to demolish the town centre......, build generic flats (without demand) and build a generic business park with lots of big screens. .

@@sonnytopboy4975 Wigan Council = labour. . Biden TOTALLY changed on China saying Xi Jinping was a bully and a thug. The awareness of that predatory Machiavellian dictatorship, using economic warfare to destroy western democracy, is front and central. Trump's China policies will remain. The US figured of China's game. . Wigan Council did not.

Nothing better than a Charlie Veitch video. The thinking man's KZbinr. Stranglers sang Mad as the mad hatter so I googled why years ago and yeah it's the chemicals. This vid gives you a great insight about how the Western world will look in 20 years time. It's this vid, only 20 times WORSE.!!!!!!! 😠😠

It's actually the weight of everything above the brick arch that keeps the bricks there. Lookup arch load distribution and structural preload.

the trend in my town of London Ontario Canada is we have foreign buyers, buying up all the old property's and buildings then they remove all the power, heating and gas and leave the buildings to rot .Then they can get a permit to rip it down because it's unsafe then they put in a parking lot .

The sounds of the Universe makes Charlie smile. And I love your smile. Wear no mask and pay attention to the random din. Self humility is the absolute key. And awareness and not to mention discernment. Lots of love as always from your number 1 fan. LOVE

Stockport needs a huge rethinking. What's happening in the old town is 'good'. Its bringing people back for the nightlife (im not talking clubing). But the 80s and 90s council crap needs pulling down. A good bit of imagination is needed. Its such a patchwork quilt.

Great camera, so crisp and clear. As per usual, love your honesty and beautiful panning of the scenery. God Bless you and your family. I've turned back to scripture and prayer too. People have no idea how to trust something they can't physically see anymore - part of the systematic brainwashing starting from infancy. It's shameful.
